Assembling box in a Trunk

Yes it would still need screws. The way I made my boxes, put it together in pieces so that when if goes in you still have access to the panels that need screws. I used Gorrilla glue and caulking before I screwed them together. It was a pain in the ass to get out, but held together great

if the box is clamped proper then no you DO NOT need screws at all screws just hold the box together as the glue drys... ive helped build a box for 2 18's well over a 150 with out 1 screw nail or anything but glue and clamps

Have you ever had your woofers blown?

Ive also built several boxes in the trunk.

Im not a fan of kreg jig, and prefer double and triple layering wood, with lots of glue, resin, and fiberglass mat.

Ha your build was one of the first trunk builds I looked through on this forum.

I probably won't double layer the box, my 11 year old suspension won't appriciate that very much. So I'll probably just have a double baffle and the center port should give me enouh support. I hope.

I was also thinking about putting one coat of resin(?) on the inside. Just to make it solid and seal everythin up. Does one coat need to be sanded? I know that bondo and when fiberglass mat is used that it needs to be sanded, but wasn't sure if just resin needed to be.

I Was planning on not using screws if I was able to fit clamps in there. But if it adds more strength to the box I'll use them. any input on that?

Edit: ninja'd^

Yeah I saw that right after I posted. Ninja'd me there.

I was assuming glue with clamps was good enough, because I was told that by my dad and shop teacher forever. I didn't know if that changed because it was a subwoofer box.

Yeah I kinda figured it wouldn't add too much strength, just wanted to make more smooth.

im a bit confused now, if im assembling in the trunk, using birch what tools do i need? obviously the glue...but how does it work with no screws? how to you like keep the wood in place? Screws aren't a bad thing right?

also would this work: 1) put in false floor screwed to frame 2) lay down bottom layer of box, screwing it down to floor by l brackets 3) building the box in the trunk

this way yo can unscrew the bottom of the box and slide it forward in the car so i can access some of my tire well??

You use clamps to tightly hold the box together while it drys.

Something like this

http://www.harborfreight.com/24-inch-ratchet-bar-clamp-spreader-46809.html

http://www.harborfreight.com/58-1-4-quarter-inch-aluminum-f-style-bar-clamp-92490.html

If you can't fit these in there you'll want to use screws.

If you want to put the 15s the baffle does have to be set back or they wont clear. My build logs will be perfect for you to get some ideas.

Ha yupp, I already went though yours, blackedout, and audiofanaticz. I really want to go with a sealed trunk. But it sure will be a challenge to fit the 15s in there. Isn't the total clearance like 15.5"? Plus it seems like I won't get enough volume for 2 15s. But yours had what, 6cuft? I thought 2 15's needed around 8
