I have bought all of the Cesar Milan books and read them. very good info and shows a lot about not only canine, but also human behavior. Very simple but highly effective techniques.

Oh and another one just came to mind, speaking of dominance. Do you make him wait till you tell him he can eat? Do you walk in first or him?

What we do with both our dogs, not so easy with our French Bulldog cause he is an absolute food hound, but we make both of them wait until we tell them they can eat. We get the food ready, hold the bowl, give the sit sign, which we don't even have to do anymore cause they know now cause of repetition, and then we put the bowl down. They still don't get to go for the food. Nope they don't get to have the food until we give the signal and the "go ahead" command. We can even go out of the room now and they will sit right there until we come back and tell them they can eat.

Then also a good thing to make sure you can do, ESPECIALLY with a young one around, is make sure you can walk up to the dog, pet it, pat it, whatever to it, and then on top of that, without warning to the dog, take it's food bowl away. If you can do all of that, without any aggression from the dog, then you're good. Just have to make sure you test on occasion. IF you cannot do it, you need to test it and do that same stuff every night! UNTIL, he no longer shows aggression. If you notice all that, it's all things that kids will do. You DO NOT want a dog in the house with food aggression! Once you're able to do it without aggression, start having your son do it with you! If not, the dog will still feel like he can be dominate over your son. Make sense.

Lastly, the going inside and outside behind you, your wife, and your son. This establishes dominance as well! That establishes to him that his place in the pack is behind your son even. We've gotten to the point where when I walk Grace, she's my dog, I make her sit at the front door, leash dropped, and she cannot come in the house until I say it's ok to come in the house. Much the same was as the food thing. Same thing as leaving the house. If she's too aggressive or excited to go on her walk, she sits and stays until I feel she's calm enough to go out. If not, she's going to pull and misbehave for the entire walk. Calm and assertive is what you need to be!

Maybe you know all this, Just thought i'd throw that out there as well.

Adding on to that the biggest thing to get off right now while their young is the door. When someone knocks they don't haul ass for the door they stay where they are and don't move. My dogs have a 5 foot rule they don't go within 5 feet of the door and they don't jump on anyone unless the person pats their chest (thats the sign that its okay to jump). My dogs also know the living room (where the good furniture is) the kitchen and the downstairs bathroom is off limits and unless escorted by someone they are not allowed upstairs unattended so when I am not home their asses are parked in the family room or den.

My dogs won't budge when its feeding time until I say go, I still have to say sit though or they will sit their wagging so fast their tails look like propellers lol. As far as using the restroom goes they let me know by standing by the door, whimpering and so on. This only happens outside of the regular 1 walk in the morning and they are outside from when I get home til when its time for bed. Any other time if it's an emergency they give me a warning that they need to go.

Forgot to mention NEVER EVER feed them table scraps or snack near the kitchen, counters or dinner table, also make sure they are away from places where you all congregate to eat and they know not to beg for food. Once that habit is established its hard as hell to break.

another tactic I heard about but never tried was a bell next to the door on a string. My cousin tried this with her pitbull, and while i'm not 100% sure about the details, she basically trained her pit to nose the bell, so to speak, when he had to go to the bathroom. She said it only took a couple days to learn how to do it. so now even if she goes out of town with him, she takes that bell and puts it by the door where she's staying, shows him, and he does it there too.

That was how my bro-inlaw made his pup understand "take a dump" time...

Edit - let me reword that,. He used this method, for the pup to SHOW HIM it was dump time....

It worked extremely good.

I have a 1yr old Great Dane when im around he is very kind to every one and wants to play but if he feels threatened in any way or feels like i might be uncomfortable with anyone he will jump on you! And 155 pound dog tackeling you is not fun
