C.Sanchez.A Posted November 27, 2012 Report Share Posted November 27, 2012 I'm going to be building a show truck this upcoming summer, after I graduate from my mechanics class, and am wondering how I should go about starting the project. I know I need to (or at least want to) make a list/plan of what I want to get done. I just want to know what you guys have done to get started. My project vehicle is a 1994 Mazda B3000 extended cab, 6 foot box, 2WD. I want to lower it and give it more "balls", either with a V8 swap or a beefed up V6. Was leaning more to the beefed up V6 for uniqueness and space saving. IDK, What are your thoughts? If you contract out different parts of the build, you have a say in how its done ... My wife told me the other day that she wished she could buy me a new truck so I wouldn't have to fix up on mine all the time ... I told her that I wouldn't trade my truck for a new one and if she had that kind of money for me to give it to me so I could get to work on all my projects I've started and can't finish ... bcpballer64 Posted November 28, 2012 Report Share Posted November 28, 2012 My tip, your either going to have a very unique show truck that costs a shit ton in parts and labor, or a more common truck with cheaper parts and easier labor that let's you do more to it in the long run. If you are dead set on current truck lower some but not crazy low, nice beefy suspension work, triangulate the bed frame to eliminate body roll, and either cram a supercharged v8 in or a turbo or twin turbo 6cyl. With a turbo I6 probably won't be able to put all that torque to the pavement because an I6 is already a torque monster then throw in a bunch more from the turbo and those wheels are sure to break loose, also for a show truck get every single detail perfect, honestly you would benefit in the long run by taking it to the frame to beef the frame up and coat it then build up. The reason I want to go with the B3000 is because there aren't too many built up out there. I know there isn't much after market parts, was thinking of maybe doing a body swap (buying a Ford Ranger and putting the B3000 body on it). When it comes to the tools, I have acquired a bunch of new stuff for school and plan of getting a bunch more. As for skills you right, but I am a long way from doing the fab stuff. Plenty of time to learn or find someone who can do it for me, with my help. For the place to do the work, my grand father finally sold his truck, so know I have a place I can put mine to work on it right next to his shop. Just a side note. I do understand it's early to start the thread about the build, but I need to start doing my research and need a place to start.
