not everyone likes the dd-1? some rude comments

Recommended Posts

I read the whole thing....this is what he's saying about the damage

Yes we have seen lots of Sundown amps go into protect after using the DD-1 all of them had similar damage in the protect circuit.

It may be a defect in SOME DD-1 units, or the way it was used, or some other unforeseen condition that exists to cause the problem. I don't know, I do not own a DD-1, don't need it, I have oscilloscopes.

Only other input I could add to this, is that we have seen similar damage to the amps in question when someone uses "grounded" RCA jacks or when someone has grounded RCA Jacks AND touches the + batt wire to the case of the amp by accident.

So I don't know if maybe people that are using the DD-1 and it sends the amp in protect are trying it over an over for an hour trying to figure out why it keeps going into protect and that is what damages the protect circuit or if it is doing ALL of the damage to the protect circuit at once

does the DD-1 have a multi-way 1/8th inch jack that has the RCA outputs/inputs AND the + DC power (to charge or power the unit) on the same plug? If so, while plugging that in, the plug goes by the contacts and if the +DC part connects to the RCA Shield or Tip part, could and WILL cause the problem.

I'm always impressed with how Steve conducts himself, willing to prove his point and that his product is great!

Good work man!

i have proved over and over and over that it's great. There is countless video's out there showing the DD-1 side by side with the most expensive scopes you can buy and its perfect every time. You guys don't know how many people tell me "ya i actually bought one and DID put it next to my scope just to see and you are right, it is dead on".

so even other people have verified for themselves. I have not had one single person email me and say "i bought a DD-1 and my amp fried as soon as i touched it". Not A SINGLE ONE. I have sold over 3,000 units and not a single amp was ever reported damaged to me. That fucking loser who claims he blew 5 amps from it, don't you think he woulda emailed me or called me bitching? i know i would, i know you would. Its all bullshit.

After reading the comments in that forum it's my understanding that it's not happening immediately,it's later on down the road so I'm guessing days, weeks or months. But he doesn't mention anything about the fact that it could be the persons install methods, wiring, voltage, etc.

that makes what he is saying even MORE ridiculous. For you to blame the DD-1 it has to blow ON THE SPOT as soon as you touch the terminals. If you set your gain by ear and then a week later it blows, is he going to not honor the warranty due to an ear being used? That is so stupid it makes my head spin.

No the damage type that is occurring is a VIOLENT type of damage, I don't know how else to describe it. You could not mess up the protect circuit by clipping the amp.... It's f******* up a part of the protect circuit in the amp. I don't know why, DONT CARE WHY, DD-1 is not my product. I'll let Steve Mead and Tony DAmore figure that one out. I just know what it's messing up, don't know how/why.

You CANNOT damage the protect circuit in the manner that it is being damaged in these cases, by turning the amp gains up.

I didn't say the DD-1 was going to mess up ALL Sundown Amps, I said it may have messed up .0005% of them. And it could have been user error or something. The particular damage done, was ONLY DONE by users of DD-1's and/or people who touched the +12V wire to the case of the amp, about 50% of the cases, they said it happened right after they setup the amp with the DD-1. That's what I said.

I knew Steve would step up and clear this sh!t....I read the posts db-r was saying and what everyone else was saying and it kind of made sundown look bad as a product because people are blaming the way the amps are built now and questioning it. But in reality It's db-r who I think has no clue about. Wtf he's talking about. If he has the proof that its the DD-1 he should post a vid of how it's sending the sundown amp into protect.

Just like how Steve here is gonna show everyone that its not the DD-1,buy buying a sundown amp and making a vid proving so.

Be nice if Jacob could chime in also and back up sundown. As always though Steve stepping up to the plate to get sh!t handled and that's a man standing behind his product and going extra lengths to prove his point when he shouldn't have to.

Hella sick how u handle situations Steve! Even though u try, try, and try again to hold back...there's only a certain amount of b.s. a man can take...but i don't how this is even a dispute when Steve has posted tons of vid of the DD-1 showing that the DD-1 is a great product and where are db-r's vids stating his facts??

Just my .02 cents.....

if you put a DD-1 in your amp terminal and it immediately went up in smoke, i would be concerned.

If you shoved your dick in the terminal and it didn't blow up but a month later it blew up, i STILL WOULDN'T be able to blame your dick.

It just does not make sense at all.

Looks like db-r is claiming something different about the amps protection circuits here.

Looks like db-r is claiming something different about the amps protection circuits here.

have these been repaired?

yes the first one with the scratch had the protection rebuilt. I was told from him that a lot of the 3500 has this issue because there were not enough silicone on the transistors part of the board :unknw: chris from db-r will better explain it than i could.

:ninja:

you mean this?

pretty typical. I have heard some pretty bad shit about DB-R over the years but my RF amps never blow so i never had to call the guy for anything. I don't place value on "what i heard" unless i see it for myself. Well i guess now, i have seen it for myself. Which one is it, the DD-1 or the silicone? Quick, find something to blame. Wait, must have been the .000005% of the amps out there. Quick math, i suck at it, but help me out some. How many blown Sundown amps would he have to see for .00005% to make up ONE BAD AMP and to blame it on the DD-1? Lets say he had 10,000 BAD sundown amps come through his shop. Wouldn't that add up to about 1/2 an amp? not even a full amp? Lets say 5000 bad sundown amps come across his work bench. How many of those amps were broken due to a dd-1 in HIS words? where are we at now, 1? C'mon now.

edit: i think i added too many zero's. I guess it was .0005. The math still applies. Lets say 1000 bad amps come across his desk. Has there been THAT many bad Sundown amps? Lets say there was.

That is 1/2 an amp. Ok lets say only 100 bad Sundown amps come across his desk. 100 x .0005 = .05. That is STILL some crazy odds that OUR product caused any problem. Find something else to blame.
