meade916
in my day, i went to a few classes taught by Soundstream (when Soundstream was the real deal) and at least 4 classes at RF including Top Gun. Before the DD-1 we were taught how to use an O-scope. We used the same 0db, -5 and -10 (40hz/1khz) tracks with the scope even 20yrs ago. What we are using for our product is not something we just made up and decided it was best. It has been industry standard forever. Hugh G. Rection
What surprises me is that someone claims 6db difference from tuning amps with different equipment then acts like we are stupid for not believing him? you just said it yourself, different equipment. who knows, maybe my results were a fluke, hell i dunno. i honestly hope it is a fluke. maybe im looking for something a little different out of the o-scope, i dunno. maybe im looking for different shit out of the o-scope than what my understanding is of the dd-1. ive never said the dd-1 was junk, ive said multiple times that i think it is a great tool. but chillmasterwill saw it happen in my car, and we got quite a gain out of his 4runner using the oscope over the dd-1. maybe we are just looking at something a little different. Jessica
Um, if i am understanding THD correctly, then the DD-1 must have an internal filter,(like a 39.99hz to 40.01hz, and one similar for 1k. It samples both what goes through the filter and also samples what does not. So once whatever does not go through the filter is above .99% of the total signal it lights up the distortion light. Or am i way off here. That could possibly create a situation where if for some reason you were processing the signal and it was effecting 40hz, the dd-1 would show distortion sooner. Because on an o-scope you would just see a waveform, and not notice if the frequency shifted. edit: i mean the user may not notice an effected(sp) signal Edited December 8, 2012 by strangeduck Quote Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside. Omega5002
Another thing In all the videoes of Meade, I never seen him say a DD-1 is better than an Oscope, only better than tuning by ear or a DMM, actually, before the invention of the DD1, he made a video of showing how to tune an amp with an Oscope. And I haven't seen Hugh say the DD-1 is crap, he just had better number results with an Oscope, plus there's a lot of variables that can be in play. I don't know why this fight broke out in the first place, we're all adults, no need to fight. Even with extreme variables. I wouldn't have even commented if it was something believable. 1 Quote All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel! Well maybe you should show us how you do it. Did you use the CD that came with the DD-1? (not a copy or anything else.) A 6.5dB difference is a incredible difference. What was the equipment used? If you have gotten 1000W out of your amp by setting it with the DD-1, that means you needed 4500W to get a 6.5dB difference. (that's if you have no thermal compression.) EDIT: just for fun, if you have set your gains with the DD-1, and 2000W would come out of your amp, then you need 9000W to get a 6.5dB difference. (again, no thermal compression included.) See why the 6.5dB claim is so unbelievable? Edited December 8, 2012 by kirill007 Quote Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for. Omega5002
I think a video is needed to show the difference then, even though a 6.5 db gain does sound a little nuts to me.
