xx1 Posted December 14, 2012 Report Posted December 14, 2012 even before I had a car, I tried to install an amp on my brother's car. but I didn't know where to get the POWER & GROUND from, so I took out the H.U. and pull some wires directly from the radio harness to power my amp. of course it didn't work, and I ended up blaming the amp. audio related merchandise (decals,banners,lanyards,hats,shirt,etc)

My build 98 s10 2.2 3 american bass HD 15s with psi soft parts. (on there way here) atomic at-3000.1 (soon) 146.2 outlaw @39hz., bad alt an bad batt when termed (old 2 12" build) alpine 6.5s in doors infinty 4x6s in dash. clarion cz201 HU. mechman 240a H/O alt stuff i still need. SHCA 2/0 wire SHCA 1/0 to 2/0 adapters Atomic AT-3000.1 Lots of sound deadner new mids an highs, still debating on what to do. A few Deka g31 batts.

Daniel Brill-Edwards Posted December 14, 2012 Report Posted December 14, 2012 I added a 2nd sub to my box a couple of years ago and I used some knukonceptz double run 12 guage to wire my DVC subs. The wires were light blue and dark blue with no writing or anything on. I got one set of VCs on a sub opposite to the other as I must've forgot what colour I was using for each so effectively shorting it out. I hadn't played my car for a few months so I'd forgotten how loud it was, turned it up max and thought "Oh that's loud" not thinking for a second that only one of the subs was working and the other was being pushed by it. I ran it like that for a few weeks and only noticed when I listened to a similar install which was hugely louder. Took the sub out and found i'd blown the tinsel leads!! I felt like a right dummy! Another install fail I did on my first install - I took off a luggage strap mounting bolt, sanded away the paint (all good install stuff) then put the painted bolt back in and the terminal on top thus negating the work I did! I have no idea what a Thiele-Small parameter was but I knew something was wrong. It was loud as fuck but sounded like shit and peaked somewhere between 50-100hz. Oh, on a Pyramid Phase III and 8ga power wire - amp bolted on the box. wooohooo!!! I was king shit ! This was over 20 years ago. He strapped my (2) Arc Audio KS 1000.1 ($650 each) at 1 ohm and turned the bass boost all the way up. Needless to say, they didn't last long. He also built my box for 2 RE Audio SXX 12's way too small and it was tuned to 48hz for daily music. (He told me it was tuned to 32). Needless to say, my equipment was ruined and he said it was my fault.... Because my car's electrical was at fault, even though it never dropped before 13 volts. Never again. Oh and he is out of business now.
