BUYER BEWARE "Electronica Direct"

Recommended Posts

First let me say that this is in no way associated with SMD or any of it's members. I just want to share my experience and this seemed like the proper section.

I ordered a hard drive through Electronica Direct on Amazon. It was a nice Western Digital drive. I got the package in 'bulk packaging' - the drive was in an anti-static bag wrapped in bubble wrap. Not in your typical WD packaging.

Fast forward to a year and a half later, the drive fails. Called up WD customer service and they have no record of that drive being produced. I even ran some of their software to look at the drive and that confirmed that it was, in fact, not a true WD drive.

I'm not sure if this is their entire business practice, but I think this is definitely something to be aware of. If they are selling counterfeit drives (knowingly or not) - what's to say that other things they are selling aren't fake too?

Also: Amazon and WD themselves have been very helpful in getting this resolved. To hats off to their C/S. The seller on the other hand? Not so much...
