Kinetik HC 3800's and stock alternator ?

Recommended Posts

I got a good deal on 2 HC3800's from my buddy so I was wondering, would I need to upgrade my stock 100A alternator for these / will it cause the stock alternator to burn out?

Honestly guys, I was thinking about buying a deep cycle charger like a CTEK 7002 to keep them charged but then I'm thinking that charger is $100 and for about $260 more I can get a Mechman 240A ...

Get the alt before the charger. The charger is great to top off batteries after a demo or at night. And yes a stock 100 amp alt. will burn out quicker than the mech man because it will be working harder to keep up with the drain on the batteries as well as not being built as well.

Just make sure you charge up the batts first. Throwing two dead batts on an alt CAN kill it.

Setup:

2010 Hyundai Elantra

Factory Unit via 4 chan NVX LOC

Excessive Amperage "H/O" Alt

Xs D3400/ Xs XP3000

Big 3. 2 Runs of +, 2 Runs of -

The battery won't cause the stock alt to burn out, no.

BUT if you are using that to help with voltage drop in powering a larger amp and you aren't terribly smart with it: you can discharge that battery, which will end up being quite a task for your stock alt to charge - keeping it running at 100% output for extended periods.
