jaycampagna Posted January 17, 2013 Report Posted January 17, 2013 Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what is going on with my amp. I'm just a "little guy" right now in the car audio world. I have the pioneer 4300 dvd head unit, a Rockford t1d215 sub and an 1800 watt (max) kenwood amp. I have been bumpin it pretty hard for almost a year now at 1 0hm with no problems until the other day when it shut off completely when I was slappin. Now every time I turn it up a little bit the stupid thing shuts right off and there's only 7 volts between the batt and ground connection. when I unhook the amp there is 15 volts. So am I in the market for a new amp? I don't want to buy one to find the same thing happening with the new amp. Also, any thoughts on the hifonics brutus 2400?
Pioneerchuck Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 If you're only getting 7V to the amp then you have a problem with your electrical. Are you saying you're only getting 7V from the battery and when you unplug the amp the battery jumps to 15V?
Nightshade Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Check your voice coils on the sub. One or both of the coils may be blown and could cause that type of problem. Ya when the amp is not hooked up there is 15v but when it is hooked up and not working at all it only shows 7v between the + and the ground terminals.

Thanks, I used my ohm meter and still get 1 ohm on the main terminals (of course this is just dc resistance) And ya I'm gonna check the ground and power coming from the battery when it warms up a bit. It's -11 degrees Fahrenheit where I live right now
