Emmet Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 I'll just leave this here... i shook this one kids hand and it just folded in mine. long story short i fucked his girlfriendso.. yeah.. You want this to happen to you? Give decent handshakes people. I was gifted with an innate ability to distribute wholesale ass beatings in a timely and orderly fashion.
Quiet Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 sub a costs less, but is a well known brand that can obviously take more. ....Or can it? Buahahahahaha As long as the sub you use meets your primary purpose, don't beat yourself up trying to choose. You will always find something better in a different sub than the one you chose. There's no magic formula. 2007 Pacifica Rebuild. Less quiet. Still not loud.
WastedTalent Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 My problem, which I'll be the first to admit, how you compare the good brands. If you compare entry level to competition level? No comparison obviously. But when you talk about all the big namers? Fi, DC, Sundown, and the list goes on... I know what you mean Sheena, they use slightly different components and rated all roughly the same... to me it's blind picking. They're all good and such so not making a bad choice at all, just when you're new? Hard to pick. I think that's what he's getting at, or trying to. I can be wrong. But that's my interpretation. As to which I think it's just taking a wild guess. Not making a bad choice but if the difference is just a magnet or voice coils? And you're new to the game/hobby? You won't know what a double or triple stacked magnet sounds like compared to the other. Only option is to hear them in person and when it's high level stuff like that? Chances are you won't. Sheena = pedobear
Quiet Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 I think I lucked out with my RF Punch 1 15". I chose it over the new model because it had similar T/S except the old model had better Xmax. That bish is loud for 180watts RMS. But then again, the new model Xmax is actually the same, RF just underrated it so the old ones would move. (my best guess). 2007 Pacifica Rebuild. Less quiet. Still not loud.
ChevyBoy95 Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 most companies we use under rate their subwoofer so average joes dont blow them. The SA coil being a 2.5in in reality can thermally take probably 1500rms for an extended period of time, just like the 3in aluminum flatwire 8 layer coil is good for about 3k rms thermally but is continuously put on 1-1.5krms woofers. Best Score to Date : 160.5 dB Outlaw (47Hz)[4 XM 15's & 2 Taramps Bass 12k's] BL : http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/147800-chevyboy95s-4-15s-7krms-wall-1533-db-on-half-power/YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/hitemwiththeflex/
Quiet Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 Oh and one very very very important thing I left out. on the same power, one sub will be louder than the other. And that has little to do with sensitivity ratings. 2007 Pacifica Rebuild. Less quiet. Still not loud.

That's what I would really like to get out of all of this. Sorry to cause all of the confusion, its tough to ask open questions about concrete things that are made to exact specifications. I look at all of these top notch underground brands, they are all good, and they are all different! That tells me there are 1 million ways to build a sub right but little more. I'm gonna hate
WastedTalent Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 That's what I figured you were asking and I've been wondering the same thing. But is sorta hard to ask without starting a vs thread. But say you're new to the game and two brands are both recommended, both specs are relatively the same, how do you know what to go with? Idk. Again, that is more of everybody's favorite answer to every question "It's application specific!" which is true. When a bunch of engineers sit down at an audio company and say "Hey, how do we make this woofer take more power?" what is the discussion that follows? I'm gonna hate
