the gain was set at less then half to begin with so 1/2 to 3/4 isnt a good idea lol

and talking abou the head unit, its a stock bose

i turned the gain down to 1/4 today and it stopped the burning smell but its not very loud at all

like i said, im gonna try to get help from somebody in person who knows what they are doing

Overall, pretty sure im gonna stick with JL. Build a better box, and have somebody tune it right. i will be happy with that

just got the kickers to play with. will prob bujild a box and test em out for fun. not really upset that people are talking shit about them cause they arnt my brand. most of the time when people talk bad about my system its just that it costs to much for a single 10 but im happy with it

I'm going to say clipping too. I had a pioneer sub rated at like 250 watts rms, ran it off a polk carbon amp rated at like 500 at 4ohms. I set gains with the dd-1 and could make that sub bottom out pretty easy. Never smelt any coil but i only bottomed it out for a few seconds. I could push it almost to the point of bottoming out for a whole song and it wouldn't get smelly but it got pretty warm.

I know a wal-mart pioneer isnt the same as a kicker but it's the same idea. Clean signal can go along way.

SMH @ people saying kicker is the problem. Clipping could happen to ANY subwoofer. C'mon, people. :sigh: Like what most posters said, it definitely has to do with someone clipping to death. Turn down the gain control and/or turn off the bass boost (if you have it on). I always turn off the bass boost, though. I've run Kicker for many years and never got any problem with it.

you have to let the subs break in I had 2 cvt12 that was the same way after a month turn the gain back up an didn't smell an the amp was 400rms but I step up to a t1000bd and they took it like a champ but no longer running kicker I'm sundown now.

Double check your wiring.

Whether you have D2s or D4s, it should look like option 2 with your 1.5 ohm stable amp.

Hard to verify from your picture, due to the angle. But it looks like your not wired right.

that what happen to my cvt12 they had to be broken in before I fully tune the amp like I said those cvt12 took that t1000bd like a champ.
