Pauly1987 Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 So been thinking of moving to a round sub (sa-12 sundown) from my current set up in my picture 2 15 l7 in a 12 cube box This is not a vs thread just looking on some info on these sundowns I've read they take 600w rms and like 2 cubes ported (correct me if I read wrong) I would like to keep the same box design that I have now speakers facing forward and ports on top My amp is a zx2500 and I don't plan on upgrading that I want 4 sa-12 do you think the zx2500 can push them? Or would I not be happy? Also how big of a box? 10 cubes ported I'm thinking cause I'm under powering them! Open to ideas Reason behind this Is I just want more BASS

Krakin Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 If you have the room I would opt for going SA-15's just cause of the cone area being lost. Krakin's Home Dipole Project http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186153-krakins-dipole-project-new-reciever-in-rockford-science/#entry2772370 Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist? I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.
Joe X Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 The L7 15s radiating surface is about the same as 2 12s (so definitely higher than 15s) and 16.1 mm xmax the SAs will have little higher xmax, so displacement wise not a compelling upgrade, since you have 12 cubes a couple of 18s with higher xmax say 25mm could potentially be more of an upgrade, also for 4 SA12s look at 4K power.
Swordlordboy1234 Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 4 SA 12's would give you a better sounding system IMO better then the l7's SA's sound great and are under rated. A 2500 will keep 4 of them satisfied but if you ever get the chance for a 3500 or a second 2500 and lower the gains on the pair from -10 db with the dd1 to -5db for the safety of your woofers. Their limit IMO is 1000rms not 600 but they will take 600 all day long and all next week, no rest. 24/7. If you gave them 1250+ each they start to not like you as much and get a bit warm. But will be great just don't bang on them for hours on hours. Pauly1987 Posted March 17, 2013 Author Report Posted March 17, 2013 So not a good option to be upgrading to 4 12? 2 18 is what u guys are saying?! Which 18 then would meet my needs and like a box that's 12 cubes 6 per chamber? I imagine I can use the same box just cut the baffle to accommodate the 18's The 18's both would need to be happy with my amp zx2500!
Krakin Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 ZVX-18 : 4 cubes Z v.3 18 : 4 cubes DC level 3-6 : 6 cubes Fi BL 18 : 5-8 cubes *Also a lot more Fi subs to choose from that are 18" If you want to go real big the SMD 18's are 4-7 cube. Krakin Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 Yeah if you want to run 2 18's your gonna need to kinda upgrade everything lol. If you want to increase your output in a meaningful way, in your space, 2 18s seem a good option, DC level 3 with coil upgrade or Level 4s can work on that power for example. To take full advantage of an upgrade, yes upgrade power, a wide array of 2x18s can work on a single 3.5K amp.
