SnowDrifter
Just wondering what the physical difference between 2 different impedance coils are. Like say a dual 1 vs a dual 2. Is the dual 1 thicker wire and/or less windings than the dual 2 or something? This is a multi-part question. I'll ask more as things get answered ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

will77530
its a longer coil like a 4ohm coil takes up more room on the former than a 2 ohm....longer windings
ric006
well when i worked at a place rebuilding for a while you could not litterally tell the difference this is why they had what ohm it was on it
SnowDrifter
More room on the former? Then something would have to change wouldn't it? Either the xmax would be higher(more winding height) or the coil would be thicker(more layers) - but then if it gives more layers, how can companies advertise a 8 layer coil if it may or may not be 8 layers? Then wouldn't you run into an issue with the bigger coil filling up the gap more, decreasing the tolerance and giving more motor force but being less suited for music due to coil rock? ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
rockFord_Expedition
I have been looking for an answer. I would guess that it has something to do with the thermal tolerances/properties, but haven't found anything that clearly states the answer. I really want to know the answer to this one too.
