So i bought my first system off a friend. A 12' 2DVC Kicker L7 and a 1800 watt (900rms @2ohm) Kenwood amp. Should I wire it to 1ohm or 4ohm? Also the sealed enclosure has a whole where the terminal cup goes. Does it have any negative effects on the sound?

As far as your question on the amp and what it should run at is hard to say without knowing some more info on your amp. Model number at least would help and making sure your kenwood can run at 1 ohm makes a difference in your decision.

The question you have on the enclosure is up to you as well. First off the hole could be left open which would there fore make it a ported enclosure and depending on the size of the box it will make your tuning of the box different. Therefore will it have any negative effects on sound no. Might it sound different yes. It also depending on the enclosure could put more tension on the sub. If you have enough cubic feet in your box your sub won't feel a thing. If it's smaller than minimum specs it will affect how the sub plays.

If too small the sub will have a harder time trying to move and cause more tension on the spider and suspension. Harder the suspension the less tolerable for smaller enclosures. Softer suspension allows for more movement and more tolerance in smaller enclosure.

I have the same amp. DO NOT RUN 1-OHM! You will blow the fuses on it. Just stick with the 500 watts in 4-ohm. One give away into not running in 1-ohm is the manual goes from 900w @ 2-ohm to "over 900w @ 1-ohm.

It's making that noise because your missing terminal cup is like having an AIR LEAK not a port.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

Terrible advice on 2 accounts

1) Don't run that Kenwood amp at 1 ohm, it's not stable and will not run well wired at that impedance.

2) The hole where the terminal cup was, does NOT act like a port. It behaves like a big hole in a sealed box.

Aiden, if you don't know the answer, don't reply. This is terribly advice and could lead to the spread of misinformation.

I'm sorry on the hole as a port idea. I'll take responsibility on that fully and if i'm wrong i'm glad someone tells me. I thought the forum was for people to learn, and help out others. Eventually someone slips up somewhere, or doesn't know everything.

However, I didn't mean to say he should run that amp at 1 ohm. I said if you know that amp is stable at 1 ohm it will work and could be ran that way if he desired. That's why I asked if he could tell us more about the amp like a model number.
