You could clamp on lathe and take what you need off. Do you know anyone with a lathe. Make a jig and take off on table saw.

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through.

yeah, but of course there's always my favorite thing awaiting; another problem immediately presenting itself. The plastic shims worked great once I trimmed the ends, but they must have been to thick at the bottom edge because they won't come out, and I was pulling and raging on them with so much tensile force they literally ripped apart, and the bottom pieces are both stuck in the gap, and it's really pissing me off. and the camera won't stop dying, because the batteries are screwed. I'm working as fast as I can though.
