what is normal voltage drop? time for new alt?

Recommended Posts

2500 dodge ram Fi SP4 18 on ZX2500.1

i am having issues with my SP4 that i did not have with my BL. my voltage drops down to 12 when driving and at times to 11.8, i replaced some grounds and this helped a lot but my voltage still drops to 12.4

engine and music off but ignition on i have 12.5V at right battery and 12.53 at left battery. 12.35 at sub amp, 12.17 at tweet amp.

with engine on i get 13.4V at the batteries, AC reads 28.8V while running

with engine running i have 13.67V at alternator and 13.45 at the closest battery.

with engine off after letting it charge i get 27.5V AC.

while driving with music off my voltage shows 13.8 max

the amp while playing will flash protect when the bass hits. the gain is 1/4 up (same as it was with the BL) and the bass boost is 3/8 up (again same as last sub).

all wire to amp is 0ga knukonteptz (spelling?) and solder on copper terminals.

so the question is: are these readings normal?

second quetion: how large of an alternaor(s) will i need to support my system?

5KW power inverter at 80% = 416.7A

2500W rms amp @ 80% (i have no idea what kickers efficency is) = 208A

1200W eclipse @ 95% = 87.1A

audiobahn a275hc @ 80%? = 37.46A

480A winch

so by that math i will need to sustain 347.56A including head unit for my music. now how does RMS and peak play in here? will i need to actually sustain 695.12? or can i get by with a 350A alt and 3 batteries?

nothing, gutted

11's is the gray zone. low 12's is gray for some people too.

alt makes the power that your car and its accessories use.

you have a decent amount of drop for your sub amp and ESPECIALLY your tweeter amp. hows the wiring for it?

keep bass boost off. useless "feature".

amp blinks protect while playing music? you better turn that shit down before you blow a like $600 amp up.

you want to solve voltage drop, then get a big alt from mechman or dc power or one of those guys.

every wire is soldered and connected via a bolt of some kind. i will go through the entire truck tomorrow and clean up some grounds. is the voltage drop from battery to sub amp abnormal? from 12.53 to 12.35 or just when its playing?

the sub amp has 2 batters grounded to body, frame, and block with 0ga and 4ga (body). both power wires from the batteries connect to a 2.75X5" 3/8" thick copper plate and from that plate are 8 fuses. from those fuses are all the power wires. the sub amp wire is about 7feet long of knuzconceptz 0ga, it has a ring terminal soldered on one end and the other end is just stranded wire screwed into the amp. the ground is 2' long and goes from stranded wire to soldered ring terminal and is bolted to the frame via 2 1/8" brass washers and a brass nut/bolt. this is the best and newest connection in the truck so if this one is bad then im not sure what to do next.

i want my amps to see 14.4 all the time so to solve that i assume a new alt? would i need one large one or two smaller ones or two larger ones for this setup?

nothing, gutted
