Shigshwa
I purchased a 270a alternator from Mechman a few years back, and I noticed that if I remove the 0 gauge wire from the alt to the battery, the alternator will not charge. The voltage will be 14 for a split second, but then drop to 12v. I have a stock wire connected, but it doesn't seem to charge. Is this normal? Moreno93
Sounds like he's talking about the added on 0AWG.. the Factory wiring is still connected correct..?
mrd6
^If that is the case then the stock wire probably has a very poor connection or is not connected at all. If everything is running well with the 1/0 the I honestly wouldnt worry about it. Everything is working fine. Shigshwa
Oh I see, thanks. A second issue is that my voltage will be 14.0v at startup, then after driving for a while, it will slowly lower to 13.4v. is this also normal? My battery is a YellowTop. Shigshwa
Oh alright, I see. How come my voltage is only at 14, and your 14.7? Do I need additional batteries or an additional alt to get this?
Yates
it could be the exciter wire or the remote check the top cables see if they are alright and the fuses

MECHMAN
If you are removing the charge lead from the battery while the engine is running you could potentially damage the alternator. If you are having problems contact us for a RGA# so you can send it back to us so we can test it properly on the dyno 1-888-MECHMAN Quote 1-888-MECHMAN www.Mechman.com [email protected]
