Suicide P Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 Hey guys. I got my bionics brx1100.1d today and I'm putting it at one ohm on a sa12. The thing is.. when im setting the gain anything other than .2 gets quieter. So if I slowly turn the gain up its automatically getting quieter (subwoofer is).

REVOofRustler Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 If I'm not mistaken, .2 would be the gain knobs max setting. The numbers on the gain knob (i.e. 6,2,.5,.2) are relating to the HU output voltage. So if you had a head unit that had 4 volt RCA pre-outs, you'd want the gain to be somewhere around "4". That's a pretty inaccurate way to set the gains, though. ChevyBoy95 Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 That amplifiers gain ranges from a 9v (lowest) to .2v (highest). What you want to do is turn it all the way to 9v being the lowest. Hopefully someone in your area has and oscilloscope that you can properly see the wave as you turn the gain to make sure it is not clipping. One of the typically ok ways to set it for the time being is to attach a DMM to your RCA going into the amplifier. Positive probe on the tip, negative probe on the outer ring. Play a 40hz 0db tone through the headunit and turn the headunit up to 3/4 volume. Record the AC voltage seen, it should be just under your preout voltage. Then on your amp, turn the gain knob to wherever you think that AC voltage is. (say if it was reading 4.5v AC, you would put the gain at half on your amp.) Then turn it down a hair from their (turning the gain down means turning is slightly towards the 9v side.) This should be ok for the time being until you find a proper person to set the gains with a DD-1 or oscope. Keep an eye on the sub and amp, making sure you dont smell coil, and the amp is not overheating. Hopefully this helps a bit.
