Zak Massey Posted July 31, 2013 Author Report Posted July 31, 2013 The last 2 head units I bought for under $200 distorted before half volume and there's no way in hell I'm going back to that. Zak Massey Posted July 31, 2013 Author Report Posted July 31, 2013 I have no interest in bluetooth, I've seen what it did to my friends system. I'm sorta looking through the 5v pre-outs, all in the $950-1200 range but they look nice as all hell '03 Cavalier LS Coup DC Power 270xp alt 2 Sundown Neo Pro 8's 2 Selenium ST200 tweeters 1 Sundown SAX-125.2 1 CT Sounds 125.2 2 Fi Bl 18's walled 1 CT Sounds AT7000.1D

BigManAC Posted July 31, 2013 Report Posted July 31, 2013 I'd go with Pioneers 80PRS. 321slapinbass Posted July 31, 2013 Report Posted July 31, 2013 you said you have a 5kw+ system, which means you probably have amplified mids / highs (and subs obviously) and you also said that the last head units you had distorted before half volume. but have you ever thought that your amp gains might be too far up and that's why your hearing distortion at lower volumes? if your amps are cranked up then your headunit might not be the problem. 2000 Dodge Durango Subs - (2) SKAR VVX 15 D2's Box - 7.2 ft^3 @ 33hz, 120 in of port Sub amp - Digital Designs M2 @ .5 ohm Mids + Highs - PRV Audio Mids + Highs amp - Hifonics 2000.4 Headunit - Alpine CDE-100 Equalizer - Clarion EQS746 Batteries - Mopar group 27 + (2) C&D 52ah Wiring - 1/0 BIG 3, (2) runs 1/0 Alternator - Singer 250A 147.79 dB @ 35hz - burp - sealed on dash 147.47 dB @ 35hz - music - sealed on dash YOUTUBE: http://www.youtube.com/user/321slapinBass/videos
pioneerforlife Posted July 31, 2013 Report Posted July 31, 2013 i have a crappy $50 boss HU as a temperary until i get my double din and it sounds decent so honestly it sounds more like an install problem to me. how many amps are you running. you may need a line driver. if you are splitting your RCA's too much you will get not enough power going to the amps input and it will sound distorted. as stated before you could also have the gain up too far on the amps. 2007 Ford Focus SES Hatchback Pioneer HU 4 Digital Designs 9515i's in a B pillar. 2 Soundstream XXX 15K's (running at 16 volts) Soundstream Mids/Highs in custom door panels (getting rebuilt soon) Soundstream TA2.160 and TA2.400 Sky High and KNU wiring 3 Banks of Maxwell caps Winston Lithium (not a fan) Bump4Life 250 Amp Alt. aka USAlternators Soundstream Focus and Avenger Build Log Instagram @p4linnovation YouTube: Team Blowin Loud
Zak Massey Posted July 31, 2013 Author Report Posted July 31, 2013 My gains are set with the SMD DD1, That's not the issue. I am running 2 Kicker ZX2500.1's and they are both set at 2720 watts @ 30hz no distortion there. (we tested it on a shops system) We also tested my head unit for distortion, It starts to distort at 20/35 with the EQ at mid. It's just a junk ol' $80 head unit. BboyTaktix Posted July 31, 2013 Report Posted July 31, 2013 Love my new Pioneer x850BT, it has everything I need including navi, looks good in my STI, and nice EQ options. I have only begun installing my system so can't give feedback on how amps sound with it yet. 2018 Golf R - Stealth SQ system build - C508GTI front (active), 2x Pioneer Z10LS4, Zapco DSPZ8, Clarion DPX11551 (Mono amp), Pioneer GM-D8604 (front stage amp), Pioneer GM-A3702 (rear fill amp) SOLD! 2011 Subaru STI - 'modest' passive sq system - JBL p660c component (front) JBL P662 (rear) JBL W10GTI (sealed enclosure) 4ch JBL GO1004 (150RMSx4), Clarion DPX11551 mono amp (+-1200RMS@3ohms)
