j0ny0der Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 So I've been into car audio since I could drive (2 1/2 years) and I've switched up my systems multiple times, I've always been into memphis some audiopipes, type r and l7s. Anyway lately I've been seeing a lot of sub boxes that was plexiglass over the subs and small ports on the box. I always assumed they were crap because they were made by dual and other off brand crap but I've seen a lot of name brands making some. Soo are they good boxes?
79 cutty Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 If they aren't built to your subs specs I wouldn't say they are crap, your performance of your equipment will just be crap. Looks and performance are not one in the same! Firm believer in letting my cars do my talking! You can't rush quality, it doesn't happen overnight. Quality takes time and dedication, but the end results more than pay for it. "Black Pearl" Build Thread http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/67183-1985-buick-regal-limited-build-log/page-1
jarrius Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 By the sounds of it you are talking about the ones like duel that have 2 10 or 12s(can't remember) in a bandpass box. Yes those boxes are good but you have to custom build it for your subs. Some call it a 4th order is I'm correct. It's a sealed box and a ported box built in to one so you kinda need the plexi or some way of getting the sub/subs in the box 2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d 140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed) 140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL 142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at) 141 on music. strangeduck,on 02 Jan 2014 - 01:39 AM, said: when my car spins out i just put the car in neutral, turn in the direction i want to go and pucker my asshole
Ben Fultz Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 "Dual" box are pure junk, there's another post on here where the box was tuned to around 117hz. So I'd stay away from anything "dual" makes. Other thread: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/174161-mindblown/
skittlesRgood Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 you're talking about prefab boxes and they are all garbage. the plexi has nothing to do with it. If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood. RooTxBeeR Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Any box can have some plexiglass built into them. Only thing that will effect the performance of the box is poor construction or design. CleanSierra Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Yeah, a bandpass can knock your socks off. A prefab bandpass, however, will not. They are one note wonders usually and the subs that are loaded in them are just as shitty as the box itself. You get someone to design you a box or better yet, build it(assuming they what they are doing), you will be impressed. I am the one the above Ben Fultz is referring to with the garbage Dual box that is a buddy's. I'm gonna show him what a real box sounds like. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
Init 2 Winit Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Here's a pic of the one currently in my girls car.. getting ready to re-do her set-up.. hence the craigslist posting...
Pioneerchuck Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 If you get someone who knows what they're doing (there are quite a few of them on this forum) you can in all reality build a pretty badass plexi box. But like everyone has said, it HAS to be built to specs of the subs and it has to be done correctly. But yes it can be done and can sound really good!
