wojo1086 Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 I have two 15" Kicker CVRs in a smaller ported box. It's that generic dual 15" box from BBox. Anyway, I want to build a custom ported box for the two subs. I was thinking about having one sub ported in about 4-5 ft^3 of air space while putting the other in a sealed box with about 2 ft^3 of air space. What I would like to know is, generally speaking, will one sub in a bigger ported box rumble more than two subs in a smaller ported box? Also, is it a wise choice to have one sealed box and ported box? I want the rumble of a big ported box, but also have the tightness of a sealed box. I know a bandpass box can achieve this result, but the space i have to deal with makes designing a bandpass box extremely difficult.
Tecomah Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Having one sealed and one ported is a waste IMO. Any of the "tightness" you will get out of the sealed box will be covered by the output of the ported. 750??! Yeah, fuck that. Fuck this website, fuck SMD, fuck Steve, fuck all of his butt buddy mods, and their couches.^ DON'T BE A DICK LIKE THIS GUY Team Subsonic Lows
TeamHT Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Why would you put one in a large ported box and then both in a smaller ported box? Just have someone design a decent enclosure for both in a ported box Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?

If you mean one 15 v two 8s then generally speaking, yes. Unless you mean one 150wrms 15 v two 500wrms 8s then generally speaking, no. That's a rather loaded question to ask that has many, many variables. For instance, it also depends on the box and the tuning, as well as power to the drivers and the TS parameters of the drivers even come into play. One 8 with a very high EBP can outperform a 15 with a very low EPB on the same power with both in ported enclosures. It's best not to mix ported and sealed boxes because the ported box will usually mask the sealed box and therefore you won't get the "tight" bass you like from a sealed box with the boom from a ported, because one is going to be louder than the other. In the end, a properly designed and constructed ported box along with low compliance, high power handling woofers will yield tight bass with the boom you're after. john253a Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 If you have the space for 5net ported and 2net sealed Why not 7net ported for both Keep the port on the smaller side or use aeros And you can always seal the port and try both in a large sealed box and see witch one you like more
wojo1086 Posted September 3, 2013 Author Report Posted September 3, 2013 What I really want is one big ported housing both my 15". I want the box to be tuned to around 33hz. I can probably get around 5-6 ft^3 out of the back of my jeep, maybe fake it a little by adding polyfill. Will this size box play higher bass notes poorly?
john253a Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 With the cvr idd tune it a little higher unless you lesion to music that requires it that low Also by tunning it a bit higher you increase the net giving you a lower -3 I like closer to 37 with dual 15's but that's me
cloud77 Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 having the sealed would be pointless as the ported would be a couple dbs louder than the sealed driver. 2004 Grand Prix GT (2) 12" RE XXXs (04/05 XBL^2) 5 cu. ft tuned @ 35 Hz MMATS HD4000.05 MMATS SQ4100 Infinity Kappa components Juice Box black cherry Duralast platinum group 34 1/0 KNU OFC, 2/0 welding Singer 250A
twisted1 Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 If you have rhe space id go for a nice 4th order 09 mustang gt

I would only tune lower if you listen to lows but remember daily musical abilities are going to be wack Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?
