Swordlordboy1234 Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 For the guy talking about explaining why voltage is bad when its lower... 10 sec explanation. Get the longer version from Tony D or Tony at CE If you have an amp that makes power at 14.4 volts and has a certain amperage pull combined to create watts. Lets say now instead of 14.4 your running 11.5 volts. Your amp is still going to do its best to make the most power it can. But with less to work with it has to try harder, creating heat. Any idiot knows heat and electronics dont mix. Almost everything you own electronic has a operating temperature that the manufacture clearly lists. Simple logic says... Since heat is bad for amps, and lower voltage creates heat. Then lower voltage is bad for amps. justin0943 Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 sorry to hear that man, go by the list 1/0 wire big 3 with 1/0 ho alt replace hood batt add second batt. if you have to add a third batt try getting a bigger alt then 240+amps first. a ho alt is better than 3 batts because once those batts starts to drain the stock alt can not keep up with all those batts so get the ho alt then start adding batts if you have to add 3rd batt get the biggest alt you can get like 240+ amps before jumping on that 3rd batt 02 dodge ram 1500 reg cab 3rd gen 2 sundown sd-2 d4 soundstream rub1.2500 amp all sky high car audio-fuse,fuse holder, wire, ring lugs and rca flex tech box design by Joe X supension-mcgaughys 2in drop spindal ,western chassis 6in flip kit, buddy custom c-notch 04 5.7l hemi motor swap and made it an slt eletric everthing youtube channel-http://www.youtube.c...43?feature=mhee http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/190882-02-dodge-ram-1500-3rd-gen/
Karkov Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 Dropping into the 12's isn't all that bad when listening to music since it doesn't stay there for very long. I'm not saying it's ideal either though. Of course everyone's goal should be to not drop below...just say 14.4, but that takes some serious coin. Personally I don't like 9's, 10's, and even 11's. 12's I'm *ok* with on music, however depending how much time is spent there would cause me to start upgrading electrical even farther. Right now I drop to mid 13's but am soon doubling my RMS watts so if things are going into the 12's every bass hit it's not even a question in my mind that I will start with 1 additional D3100 and see where things are at. if not satisfied then I will add another. Dropping into the 12's is one thing for me but staying there is another. Dropping into the 12's doesn't bother me. Others have other opinions. I am just stating mine for the OP to take it or leave it. I am ALWAYS open to constructive criticism. =) $.02 2007 Chevy Tahoe (SOLD) 12 ~ FI Audio X series 10" w/BP option 2 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @0.67 3 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @1.0 2 ~ PPI 3 way sets (not installed yet) 1 ~ RF T400-4, 1 ~ RF T600-2, 1 ~ RF T600-4 4 ~ CT Sounds 5.25" Strato comps (rear fill only) 1 ~ XS Power D4800 1 ~ XS Power D3400 8 ~ XS Power XP3000 160 stock alt, Mechman 370 Elite, 185 DC Power 320+ Sq. But what happens when I go from 2500 at .5ohms to a 3800 at .5ohms. I gotta figure out how to add another battery in the space I have lol. russtezecustoms Posted September 20, 2013 Report Posted September 20, 2013 I fried an amp at 10.8 volts. I dont exactly know what happens in there but im sure it makes the amp work harder to put out the power, overwork causes excessive heat causing increased resistance and more workload. Its a cycle that ends in some really stinky smoke. I just wish i had a funny sig.
pioneerforlife Posted September 20, 2013 Report Posted September 20, 2013 I have a 100 amp alt with stock battery up front and a kinetic hc800 as my second battery, and no big 3 and I only drop to 13.3 playing music. I am running about 1600 watts too. I would check your ground. my friend had some voltage problems and he re-grounded his amps and it solved his problems. I would also do the big 3, get rid of the cap, and get a second battery. 2007 Ford Focus SES Hatchback Pioneer HU 4 Digital Designs 9515i's in a B pillar. 2 Soundstream XXX 15K's (running at 16 volts) Soundstream Mids/Highs in custom door panels (getting rebuilt soon) Soundstream TA2.160 and TA2.400 Sky High and KNU wiring 3 Banks of Maxwell caps Winston Lithium (not a fan) Bump4Life 250 Amp Alt. aka USAlternators Soundstream Focus and Avenger Build Log Instagram @p4linnovation YouTube: Team Blowin Loud
