afrakes Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 So I heard from a member of another forum I'm a part of (to remain unnamed) that while still in the "breaking in" phase of a new subwoofer that the more low notes you play the lower the sub can play on full tilt. An vise versa with high notes. I feel like he is full of shit, so I figured I would ask, any truth to this? N9neMillahhh Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 i don't think that's right....it just doesnt seem right...i mean the box would be the factor on how it plays, and how it breaks in. but i could be wrong, cause i dont know, but it could work i guess... 02 Lexus IS300 (2JZ FTW) Mids/Highs: JL Audio C5 6.5s all around Mids/Highs Amp: JL Audio HD 600/4 Subs: four SA-8v2s in 3.8cubes @ 32hz Sub Amps: SAZ3k Battery: Huge Interstate Batteries relocated to trunk About 80ft. of 1/0 OFC.... Krakin Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 As the suspension loosens up the parameters of the driver will change very slightly. The main point of the "break-in" myth is that it effects how much power you can send to it. Some Manufacturers try to get their customers to follow this method as a way of protecting the company. That way if a driver is blown within the stated "break-in" period the seller can just ask how much power was being sent to it. After they get an answer that is at the RMS of the driver they can just say it was your fault that the driver blew. When in reality if you are sending the driver a clean signal at rated power it should be fine, as long as the rated power is the truth and not doctored numbers. So to wrap it up, yes a sub can play lower, ever so slightly, after a period of time when its suspension loosens. But a "break-in" period is a myth. Jessica Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 I had two sa-12 i used for almost a year, wanged them almost every day. Bought two more, the suspension felt exactly the same. If "break in' was true, why would sundown tell me mixing old and new subs would be perfectly fine? Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside. MACnonsence6 Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 ive noticed with everything the same that i could get my subs sticky pretty easy if i started getting on them but now that ive been using them for about a month i cant not even if i tried so once the suspenstion loosens up that must help a bunch in cooling I picked up an MTX Sw1212 powered subwoofer today. This thing sounds amazing. 130 watts, 12" woofer with a passive 12" woofer tuned to 27 hz. Moving the pictures on the walls and my girl got wet from the bass when i showed her haha. Tonight should be good haha.
