Quiet Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 SMH this is the kind of bullshit that ends up as "common knowledge" in car audio circles. 2007 Pacifica Rebuild. Less quiet. Still not loud.

Some list specs as being before or after break in. oh. =O I did not know that. My bad. Guess i more just meant that a subwoofer is designed and made to play a certain way that's why different brands have different models etc. etc. etc. but either way does playing it low at first make it play lower in the end or playing it high at first make it play higher in the end? that's the part I just really find hard to believe. I believe the suspension does loosen up and it will sound different (and hopefully better) to the ear test. 2007 Chevy Tahoe (SOLD) 12 ~ FI Audio X series 10" w/BP option 2 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @0.67 3 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @1.0 2 ~ PPI 3 way sets (not installed yet) 1 ~ RF T400-4, 1 ~ RF T600-2, 1 ~ RF T600-4 4 ~ CT Sounds 5.25" Strato comps (rear fill only) 1 ~ XS Power D4800 1 ~ XS Power D3400 8 ~ XS Power XP3000 160 stock alt, Mechman 370 Elite, 185 DC Power 320+ Sq. HHR Ed Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 By saying that playing high frequencies to a woofer when it is new will help it play higher frequencies better. And playing low frequencies to it when its new will help it play lows better is complete Bunk. Never heard anyone say it before but there is always new BS and new myths coming out from people that just talk. The truth is, woofers will naturally break in during normal playing. As the suspension loosens and resins in the spiders crack, the woofer will settle into it's natural operating spec. This could mean it plays lower, or higher frequencies better. Or no change, or a very small change. What determines this is the how the woofer is designed and the materials used in the construction of a woofer. You cannot change the way the woofer will change with different "Break in" methods or by playing different frequencies or power levels. It will change to what it naturally will settle at, regardless of how you play it. I thought bs from the start too, just thought I would check the myth from all yall. REEDSBUD Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 To train my subs I first soak them in a tub of 20-50 Valvoline for 1 week then carefully rinse them down with a powerwasher and finally dry them in the oven set at 375 for 30 minutes and then coat them in a fine layer of automotive clearcoat. Now my subs play lower than ever and can never blow!!
