ncc74656 Posted October 6, 2013 Author Report Posted October 6, 2013 now i was always told that kickers are solid amps and that has been my experience as well. thats why i went with them over a crachendo or pioneer. also the 3KW amp paired with a 3KW sub sounded like a good combo. i want to know how much of hte amps potential it is using with bass boost and gains down vs gains up and boost down vs boost and gains up. i want to make a graph of this for 25-90hz in 5hz increments. just getting things to work is not good enough i need to understand why they are working now, why they were not working before, and what i did wrong in the processes. nothing, gutted
Krakin Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 ZX2500.1 from his sig Krakin's Home Dipole Project http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186153-krakins-dipole-project-new-reciever-in-rockford-science/#entry2772370 Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist? I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.
ncc74656 Posted October 6, 2013 Author Report Posted October 6, 2013 yes a ZX2500.1 that was rebuilt by kicker less than 20 running hours ago. nothing, gutted
ncc74656 Posted October 6, 2013 Author Report Posted October 6, 2013 ok. RCA's have 0.7V AC kicker amp sits at 1.1v at rest with gains/bass boost down. turning up gains will move this to 1.6 and bass boost will bring it to 2.7V while playing the amp peaks at 51V ac at 33.4hz my eclipse amp shows 13.3V on one channel and 11.1V on the other at max volume max voltage drop at amps with engine off is .8V and nominal is .34V subs best volume by ear is with gains 3/4 up and bass boost 3/8th up by my math the most this amp puts out is 1300W in its current setup. nothing, gutted
Krakin Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 Did you take in effect phase angle? You need to set the gain based on the voltage of the head unit not by ear, bass boost should only be above 0 if you are measuring at the one note it boosts or else it can cause a distorted signal at and near that frequency. ChevyBoy95 Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 as far as shims..... you can basically use whatever you want, my preference is higher quality printer paper. Get the circumference of you coil, 4in coil would be 4*pi or ~ 12.5in, and get a few layers of paper 6in wide or so, and the circumference long, and use a seamless shim all the way around with the paper almost touching, but not over lapping. This will insure a perfectly aligned coil from top to bottom using the inner coil and pole piece. then lay the spider landing glue. I like to wait between surround and spider landing glue-ings because if the spider landing isnt setting yet, when you manipulate the surround and glue it you might tilt the recone ever so slightly, even with a tight shim, and cause coil rub in the ends of excursion. Just because it makes it sound louder doesnt mean it is good for the amp. It has a purpose, and you are not using it correctly. ncc74656 Posted October 6, 2013 Author Report Posted October 6, 2013 i used a 45hz test tone for these numbers or a 25-90hz sweep i do not get proper volume out of this sub with out bass boost up. i dont know if i need a line driver, a new deck, a differnt amp or sub... but there is no way this amp is powering this sub properly. i just removed my group loop isolators on the RCA's for the mid/high amps to see what that does. my sub RCA's are at 4.1V but my mids/highs are at 0.7 how do i get this sub to move with out bass boost? one post im told never to use bass boost, next post im told that its fine so long as its not done to much and to tune by ear, next post im told to turn it back down... im getting pissed off here nothing, gutted
