Glassing In The Cold?

Recommended Posts

Well as some of you know I've been working on my door panels and pillars. It was 80 degrees last week now it's 60 degree can I glass at this temperature? I know I can add more mekp but won't that make it more brittle?

It'll be fine. You are still withing the temperature range that is OK for resin.

You can always look at the manufacturer's specs on the actual resin you have but usually its OK until you get down to freezing.

You just have to adjust your mixture accordingly.

  • 1 month later...

So even with it being in the 40s today I can still glass? I laid out some kitty hair last night but I did not expect it to be 46 degrees today. I am using the sticked chart for MEKP in this section of the forum. I guess if I mix 1.75% I will be good.

If your still going for it in that cold of a temp I'd suggest having some heat lamps on your project.

I may just wait till it gets up to 50. Apparently it is supposed to. I don't have a heat lamp though so yeah. I may just have to play the wait on warm weather game again.

Torpedo Heater MAN u will love it forever

My problem is that I usually work outside. There isn't much space in our storage shed that I keep my stuff in. If I used a heater would I mix the resin at a lower % of MEKP though? I may be able to get my hands one though if it would help.

I used the 3M glass and it took forever to dry using a heat gun or whatever. I ended up using way more hardener and still didn't help.

Great that is what I am using.... Did you follow the MEKP chart on the forum or just 40 drops like it says on the container? Also what was the temperature?

Get some sun flash

he wouldnt be the first to say they did a 167 with a system like that (one that clearly DOESNT), but i have to say, he didnt beat me anywhere, ive never competed against the guy. If he thinks his does a 167, mine would probably put him in a coma. :hairtrick:
