dangaranga
I know this is going to sound absurd or stupid, but when a sub breaks in does the epoxy on the coils make a slight smell when new? only asking because my past few subs (although pioneer) they would stink for the first few hours of beating and then go away after a while, and they worked fine for a long while after, and i did in fact pull the magnet covers on the subs and the coils were still that brand new bright copper color. Was just a random thought i had. Krakin
It's normal for new speakers to smell. As long as it smells like glue. If it smells like your coils are burning you will know as it is a very distinct smell. I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener. hazestorm23
Mine have always done that at first. As long as you don't have a constant smell after a while I wouldn't worry too much about it
DubNDodge
Play 'em until they smoke, then turn it down. kidding though. If the smell gets strong, to the point it makes you queezy, then yeah you need to lay off some.
