Door Panels: Starting New 02 Civic

Recommended Posts

It looks like the mount for the screen is a little twisted from the pictures? is it warped a little?

NO, IT'S AN ILLUSION. ON ALL PICTURES, IT LOOKS LIKE ITS WARPED BUT IT IS NOT. A CAMERA ANOMALY.

ON THIS PICTURE YOU CAN FOLLOW THE EDGES AND SEE THAT IT'S STRAIGHT .

BUT BECAUSE OF THE CURVES OF THE DOOR (MORE CURVY ON THE END AND LESS CURVY IN THE MIDDLE) IT MAKES THE SCREEN POCKET LOOK LIKE IT IS OFF.

You may have mentioned already, but what are the holes on the bottom ledge of the panel for? Same with above speakers under that ridge?

Under the door panel

OKAY SO AFTER STAGE 2 IS FULLY CURED (I USUALLY LEAVE IT A DAY OR TWO), I WET SAND IT WITH 400 GRIT AND BEING CAREFUL NOT TO BREAK THROUGH. ALSO CHECKING AROUND FOR IMPERFECTIONS AND AIR BUBBLES. I FOUND A LONG ONE ON THE SIDE CURVE AND ON ONE SIDE OF THE TV BRACKET. I SANDED THAT AREA DOWN UNTIL IT IS FEATHERED COMPLETELY AND CONTINUED TO SAND THE REST OF THE PANEL.

SO, IF YOU MANAGE TO TO THIS STAGE WITHOUT A HICCUP, YOU WOULD FINISH SANDING DOWN WITH 600 GRIT AND GO TO PAINT. IF YOU DO HAVE A SPOT OR TWO TO FIX, YOU WOULD SAND IT DOWN, FEATHER IT AND ONLY PRIMER THAT AREA (NO NEED TO PRIMER THE ENTIRE PANEL AGAIN). WHICH IS WHAT I HAD TO DO.

AFTER SANDING DOWN THE REST OF THE PANEL WITH BOTH 400 & FINISH WITH 600 GRIT. I HAVE TO CHECK TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING STILL FITS .

IN ORDER TO MAKE EVERYTHING FIT YOU MAY HAVE TO CLEAN AND CLEAR OUT THE EDGES AROUND THE OBJECTS AND THEIR SEATING LOCATIONS BECAUSE OF THE EXTRA THICKNESS THAT THE PRIMER ADDED. THE CARBON FIBER TRIM RING LOCATION AND THE RING ITSELF WOULD HAVE TO GET A SMALL AMOUNT OF CLEARING UP TO MAKE IT SIT JUST RIGHT. I USE ANYTHING WITH A STRAIGHT EDGE LIKE AN OLD CREDIT CARD AND 80 GRIT SAND PAPER.

I ALSO SAND A LITTLE OF THE SIDES OF THE RING AND TEST FIT.

YOU DO THIS UNTIL YOUR OBJECTS SIT JUST RIGHT BECAUSE THE LAST STEP IS PAINT AND YOU DON'T WANT TO DO THIS AFTER THE PANEL IS PAINTED.

NOW ALL I HAVE TO DO IS FINISH PRIMERING AND SANDING THE PROBLEM AREAS AND GIVE IT SOME COLOR.

HOPEFULLY I WILL BE ABLE TO GO TO THAT STEP BY NEXT WEEKEND IF NOTHING ELSE GOES WRONG.

You can't rush quality, it doesn't happen overnight. Quality takes time and dedication, but the end results more than pay for it.
