I second that on the dd1 bro. But honestly try to find someone close who has one. Its really the only way to set your system up so everything is matched perfect imo.

Overall it sounds like your doing everything right. But gain matching is very very important.

You spend $1400 on an amp and you couldn't spend $300 for the dd-1/cc-1 combo pack to make sure it's tuned properly because why?

I own a dd-1. But I have thousands in gear and I would be perfectly comfortable setting gains by ear and I wouldn't even blow up a speaker. But I am not stupid as hell. I'm not taking away from the dd-1 but all you guys can say is dd1 dd1 dd1 dd1 dd1 dd1.

I realize that I need a DD1, lets stop fixating on that so damn much. It's not helping with the problem at hand, and won't until I have one.

I'll get one as soon as possible but for now I'm just trying to set my gains. I guess by ear will have to do for now.

I plan on getting rid of these woofers anyway, so if I blow them, I guess its not a big deal.

Your problem at hand?

Unless you have some 6v pre outs it sounds like your gain is correct.

It sounds like your electrical is ok.

it doesn't sound like your doing anything wrong.

So what exactly is your issue? The clipping indicator on the bass knob?… Try going to a shop with a scope and see if they think its clipping.

Can you hear distortion? Can you see HUGE dips in your voltage when you turn up the volume?

The only thing you can do is use your senses to try and figure out the signs of your problem

Use your ears to listen for something not sounding right, use your smell to smell for burnt coils. use your touch to see if the amp is heating up. use your eyes to check voltage drop on the WORST bass notes while full volume. Those are all signs of clipping. Beyond that you need to get a scope on it or get a dd1 on it.

disconnect your subs and throw on one of the test tone tracks and turn up your headunit close to full output where you would normally listen to it full tilt.

now go put your head right beside your amp is it making a humming or hissing or low buzzing sound.

if it isnt. good start.

Your ear-o-meter is not an accurate tool for detecting distortion. Can you set an amp and get lucky and not have anything burn up sure id bet everyone on here has done so but distortion is present before it's audible to your ear. And why not protect your expensive investment? it's stupid to buy something like a $1400 amp and not set it up properly.
