Is the pioneer 80 prs worth spending the money on it if your not going active? Or arent considering going active Atleast right away.. Or is it better to save some money and just go with something more basic like the Pioneer DEH-P8400BH??

They aren't terribly expensive for what they are, probably has some of the best functionality for a head unit in terms of SQ controls, side to side independent 16 band graphic equalizer with time alignment along with a bunch of other capabilities. Id say its worth it if you want maximum sq

09 Challenger R/T (Audio system under construction):

  • Pioneer AVH-X4500BT (PAC RP4CH11 harness)
  • (2) Sundown Audio SA-8v2 (inverted)
  • CT Sounds AT1400.1D
  • XS Power D3400
  • 40 sq ft. Audiotechnix deadener
  • 1/0 Audiotechnix wiring
  • stock Boston Acoustic 7 speaker amplified system (for now)
  • Sealed trunk enclosure

love mine in my car, even without much tuning it woke up my stock speakers very well. Can only imagine what it would sound like if I had done the time align and put in a different set of speakers lol Worth the money in my opinion.

The menus are clunky and the unit has a high learning curve. I've seen soo many posts here where people cant even switch it to network mode let alone understand and use all the goodies it has under the hood.

I mean if you go active later you can set crossover points and slopes for subs LP on mids, Hp on mids, Hp on highs, levels sub mid and highs, driver position within a .1 of an inch, there is the EQ function, and other stuff too.

I wouldn't recommend it if you just want a nice H/u to jam to. Try a different pioneer or Kenwood or even an alpine. Clarion as a last resort. Their quality isn't that great anymore.

i wanted an 880 or 800prs, but never had the money when i came across one in my chosen price range, so I settled for an eclipse cd7000, but i may upgrade if i come across another

You don't have to go active ti put it's sq to work. it has evening a basic hu has plus great sound processing. You don't have to use the left right eq and the time alignment isn't hard to work with. Has 5 volt preouts and you can customize the lighting.

singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.

I would buy one. Especially if it's new. They're discontinued for next year from what I've heard.

You can use it as dumb or smart as you want, but you can't easily add all of it's features to an 8400.

Static drops are my bag.

Why wouldthe discontinue one of their best seeking units of the year? Everyone you can buy it from id just about always out of stock?

Either way he is right to add features like that to another CD player just isn't really possible. Not with out a sound processor and those can get doormat real quick
