how to truly winter proof a car

im working twards getting all the supplies to start my build in the summer. id like to go threw and fix all the rust on my car but being in norther newyork salt is an issue. im wondering what options there are to truely fix rust threw on a car. as well as ways to truely prevent it from happening, my cars a 98 my goal for the summer is to go threw and have everything on it new. body/ motor wise. but i dont want it to just be a summer pretty car goal is summer stunter and winter monster lol. so any helpfull advice to keep a car looking good and surviving winters. i dont plan to get another 10 years out of this car but another 3-4 looking and looking good is what im after.

Keeping a nice coat of wax on it all summer.with a good clay bar and fresh wax before winter helps. Rinsing the salt and dirt of frequently throughout the winter woo keep it from eating away at the paint and body. Mud flaps to prevent rocks chips from rocks flying of your tires.

In general just keeping it clean and the.paint chip free as much as possible during the winter and nice wax all summer. Hell if you have a heated garage wax it during the winter after a good bath to. Would be beneficial to have a drain in your garage to

i wax and clean my neon as much as possible. even with cleveland salt my body is holding up very well. picked up mud flaps for my rear at pull a part and kept my bumper much cleaner.

from my understanding its salt that rots out our cars it some how finds its way into places you cant really clean. thats why my rear quarter is starting to go

The only way to completely get rid of rust is to sandblast it and/or cut it off and weld in brand new metal in a stable environment; (rust starts to form very quickly on bare metal and treating it away from humidity or moisture is best...inside a controlled shop) . The bare metal should be treated with a good etch primer....Then it's your choice; if your fixing something underneath the car, I would probably undercoat it.

besides rust, like the others said, wax does a hell of a lot for saving your clearcoat and paint for a long time.

yep salt is absolutley the culprit. quarters, rockers, and doors seem to go the fastest on our cars.

Once you fix the rust, put some undercoating spray on the underside of car, that or beadliner. If I had access to a hydraulic lift I would do that to my car in a heartbeat.

Use a good sealer then primer paint then clear, for the frame a sealer then bed liner our just bed liner.

A single chip in the paint and you have to watch for flaking and rust.

they have under coating kits where i would drill a small hole in a panel prolly the back and spray this stuff threw there as to cover the inside as well. im planning to completely gut this car over the summer and go threw everything. the under body of it is already under coated sept its starting to rot in the part where the gas tank straps hook but that shouldnt be to hard to make and from lookling at it i dont think its a structural part of the car. i was thinking of truck bed coating the floors of the car i feel like that would be way stronger against anything hitting it then the undercoating

my dads a master tech for chrysler and he uses a mixture of used tranny and engine oil with gear lube and it serves the same purpose. sprayed all our cars with it
