in3ssi Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 currently right now i have 3 batteries, my starting wet cell in the engine compartment , and 2 60 amp hour shurikens in the back. how come when it gets cold ( florida cold 35- 45 degree F) my voltage is always fantastic? like quite literally ill be sitting at 14.5-14.7 ( this is while running of course) and my sound system just loves it. Ive always had the idea that cold weather is bad for batteries but this conflicts with those thoughts. Is it just its not cold enough to be harmful to the batteries and the loss of energy to heat transfer is more effecient? or heck do alternators run slightly more effecient in the cold and im approaching this from the wrong angle?

Markous Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 I was first surprised how high of a voltage (same 14.7) i had when winter settled in up here (early November) It's almost to good, experiencing a bit of belt slip on the really cold days, not the coolest sound. I do like being able to have all the accessories on in my truck, bumpin tunes loudly and still rarely dropping below 14v.
