coh33dkill3r Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 Beginning to build a ported box for my x18 and wondering what the best aero port for me to use would be. 2 6" ports or 1 8" port??? Box will be 6.1 cu.ft after displacement and tuned to 31... Any other suggestions? Maybe different tuning as well?
zayres29 Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 the box tuning and volume will change with either of those just because you want the box tuned to 31 and you want it to be 6.1 cubes doesnt mean it will turn out like that Btw that was the first person. Ever banned by me while dropping a deuce. Feel privileged
alaskanzx5 Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 8" port would have a nice mean look to it. 2 6" ports would make it cheap to change tuning on the fly. either way you could easily adjust tuning with a aero port so that you can find the tuning you like. with this i would either choose the one with more port area or if both are comparable in port area (dont feel like checking the math on it) then the one that fits the design better/better visually. make 2 designs, one with an 8" port one with 2 6" ports. then pick the one that better fits the build. remember though, you have to have a min of port diameter between the port and any structure on the outside of the port or enclosure wall on the inside. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
ToNasty Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 2 6" is more port area but I still notnsure that's enough for that sub ***Super Sellers List***http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/25829-super-sellers-buyers
alaskanzx5 Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 Ask the manufacture about port area for that sub then. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
coh33dkill3r Posted January 20, 2014 Author Report Posted January 20, 2014 I was told I would need around 100 inches of port but that seemed kind of big for just 1 18
alaskanzx5 Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 it's not dependent on the speaker size exactly, has to do with how much air the.speaker can potentially move. The more air the speaker can move the more port area you need to avoid port noise. Rounds Ports can use less port volume because you can buy/make better flares with more ease then for square Ports. Use winisd to hero determine if there will be port noise due to a high port velocity. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
Joe X Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 A single 8" has almost the same port area as 2 6", 2 PSP 6" ports at their full length of 17" will tune to about 31.8Hz a 6.1 cubes net box, it would be enough port area at that tuning for 1 X18 to 1800W RMS.
coh33dkill3r Posted January 21, 2014 Author Report Posted January 21, 2014 What if I did 2 8" aeros. Give me a little over 100 inches of port area? Nevermind. Port length would need to be 40" long
