Too finish my box I am planning on polishing the spray paint. I have already done several layers with 320 & 600 grit between each layer.

Here are the final steps I plan to take

  • 600, 1200, then 2000 grit sand paper
  • Nu Finish - scratch remover
  • Meguires Deep Crystal - System Carnauba Wax
  • Micro fiber polishing rag
  • then post pics :)

Any steps or other methods I should try?

Can't say I've done it

But it's just spray paint. Make a test panel and see what works

I did a test peice in black, same sort of method you're doing:

Almost a mirror finish with 3 clear coats and 1200 grit to 2000 grit then Nu finish and so on.

I will definitely do a test. I have watched several DIY vids and read several DIY write ups. Always looking for some additional recommendations based on experience.

the van box is spray paint and its very glossy. just make sure you get lots of primer down so the color doesn't saturate into the wood. Also make sure you have good color coverage and at least 3 clear coats. I wet sanded with 100-1500-2000 then buffed with a dual action

I used plenty of primer on the wood and the fiberglass/bondo. I haven't done a clear coat yet. Do I wet sand before clear coating? Or just take it to a 1200 grit and then clear?

Yes this is on white paint.

800 grit wet sand is good before clear

you could take it a step further and wetsand with 3000 or a trizac 3000 grit pad, it will start to bring back the shine and make buffing easier. And for buffing I always used 3m compound #1,#2,#3. Also maybe pick up a cheap buffer?
