ROLEXrifleman
Unless youve been under a rock you know the buzz lately has been clamping. Well, i got done with the my resistor bank build ( can be found here http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/182337-resistor-bank-build-log-complete-21214-12pm/ ) and am now ready to begin testing. So the 1st two amps to be tested..... Soundstream's Reference 160s and Rubicon 404 Why these two? 1) They have 8 ohm rating 2) They are rated down to 1 ohm 3) They are old school 4) They require power I can supply So heres the teaser. Hope to get thise on the bench within the week. Rolex you sicken me. Just let me finish my pie ~ Juice
S15_Silvia
The "0.5Ω stereo" rating on the Soundstream makes me curious to hear what mids/highs would sound like cranked up at that impedance. Looking forward to results + seeing this thing in action. 2016 Subaru BRZ | Sony XAV-AX100 | Rockford Fosgate DSM 4080 & DSM 40ix | On 6/6/2012 at 6:32 PM, 'LZTYBRN' said: 3. WillistonAudioLabs
Are you driving them to clipping or 1% THD using a DD-1? In my experience the OS Soundstream amps struggle to meet rated power at their lowest ohm loads. They may meet and exceed 4 ohm stereo ratings, but the Reference 300 and Reference 500 I tested both would not reach their rated power at 1% THD, no matter the ohm load or input voltage. Steve also tested a Class A 5.0 on the Amp Dyno with similar shortcomings. These are still great SQ amps, just not underrated as the Internet myths and eBay listings may suggest...Looking forward to the tests See my videos on YouTube http://www.willistonaudio.com Many tests and demos of OLD and NEW SCHOOL car audio gear!
