P4killer_
What??? My d3400 and my 136a alt pulls like 440 at 11v... now not for very long.. and idk what his amps are but you gotta figure the alt is 270a, any quality battery will be able to put out 200a for a lil bit. Certainty a d3100.. Its not like hes gonna melt the wire, but one run of wire wont cut it imo... I mean hell the alt alone will max the current carrying capacity of most 1/0 wire. And any current pulled from the front bat is then bottle necked.. Im not saying he needs 6 runs so buy 100ft of wire. But if he only has 1, hes gonna need more. 2 at least. Hes wanting to add a 3rd d3100 chances are hes gonna pull some power... Id get that bat. And 50ft of wire if you need it. SnowDrifter
Lots of folks look at the rated wire ampacity and stop at that. Really, you need to dig deeper. Look at your voltage drop across the wire ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
P4killer_
Right.. of course current capacity depends on length alooooot. My point being hes def gonna pull his 270a, if he didnt he wouldnt even get into his battery reserve and wouldn't be looking for another 3100. We really just need more info. My first thought was whos daily driver has 120 plus ft of 1/0 power wire?? SnowDrifter
I have about 80 in mine 45ft front-back and alt to battery runs 15ft in misc grounds 20 ft for amp wiring Adds up fast lol ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
P4killer_
Lol I spelled out power wire because I meant power wire. This guy wants 120 plus ft of power only wire... And yes I realize current flows through the negative I was jusy keeping it simple. 120ft of posi wire.. lol that's alot. I figured he was using frame for return path.. Ozim
Im running mojo 4kw at 0.5ohm, no mids or high amps. I'd say about 500amps current draw. The voltage went from 14.4v to 13.0v at full tilt driving, idle would drop to low 12's. Idle is the problem. Amp pull so much current draw at idle. I have only one run pos/neg all around. I'd like to keep above 14v while driving, not 13.0. Would add a d3100 help voltage up? Right now im leaning toward to d3100 after read your inputs. P4killer_
Another d3100 will give you more reserve. Which will help you keep the voltage longer.. But imo you would also benefit from another run of power wire to the back.. your situation is like trying to suck a pineapple through a straw..
