d3100 OR 100' 1/0 spool for multiples runs

Recommended Posts

I am debating whether to get another d3100 or get 100' 1/0 spool.

My electrical system is 270xp alt and two d3100. Would multiples 1/0 runs help electrical system better OR get another d3100 with little leftover 1/0 laying around in the shop. I cannot afford both. Both of them are about same cost. The system is for daily.

Well a d3100 as wire doesn't store power... but unless you drive a boat 50 ft of wire should be enough for 2-3 runs

.. if you already have 2 runs or more.. what would you do with 6 more???

I'd go with the d3100. 1 run of 1/0 will handle your alts output and your gonna be drawing more current than your alt can put out, so more battery reserve > less resistance in your power wiring.

Well I mean if he has a 200+ alt and a d3400 battery you could easilly get north of 500amps..

And you need to gey thay power back to the amps. So if you dont already have 2 runs, you need some wire..

Not 100 ft tho.

How many runs do you have now? OFC or CCA? Voltage drop?

but your only going to draw what you can put out. 500 amps wont happen

He means 500 amps of current going to the back. 270a from the alt, 230 from the battery. You'd have to drop REALLY low for that to happen but it's still possible

I would get the battery but what's your RMS like and yes, voltage drop?
