Guest
if songs aren't loud enough, you don't have big enough speakers or amplifiers
EP95
go to amplify set it to -.1 and there you go, not the level slider on the track itself.Wait so changing from to -1 makes it louder? That doesn't make sense... I still must be doing something wongNo, amplify it to - .1 not -1. If its recorded at -5.7db, It'll be louder. If its at +.1 then its above the 0db recording level and can only go down. As I said under amplify, not the slider on the track itself.@Kranny, I think he's talking about how older music is recorded at lower levels and just wants everthing to be just as loud as newer stuff. numatik
ugh i still dont think i get it. I pull up the song and its defualt at 0. I did +2 and it got super louder but showed clipping. I thought going the other direction would make it quieter? Guest
i said when you use the Amplify feature in audacity, it already calculates the maximum level of amplification that is recommended. whether that be 0db or .2db or whatever. if its negative dont bother doing anything. if you want to manually override it, you can. but at your own risk. Hammer Knock
Wouldn't making the VOL over 100% on something that doesn't distort run a risk of it being distorted without being tested? if the car doesn't stall, you have enough voltage. Rocktown SPL
/When I amplify and preview it sounds the same. Will it be different on my ipod in my truck? I also dont know how sensitive the tuning is, do you have any hints? Here's your problem, the ipod. Some devices play louder than others using the same song file. Play the file from the laptop (iTunes) and have it connected like you would your ipod and see if it's louder. If so, then the maximum volume of your ipod, and some phones, is lower than the maximum volume your laptop can put out. As far as clipping and "boosting" tracks in Audacity, elements like hi-hats and drums will often get their sounds clipped when above the maximum allowed volume for the song, and will have it's sound altered or capped or "levelled" off at the maximum. So for sound clarity it's better to have the Amplitude set to 0 so none of the audio gets clipped (even when some production cds may show clipped sounds).
