Whats my current electrical good for? (future expansion curiosity)

Recommended Posts

For my curiousity and possible future expansion plans i would like to know what kind of wattage my electrical system would be able to push reliably on a daily basis without doing any more upgrades?

Right now i have a 170 amp Mechman alternator, the big three in 0 ga with the Audiotechnix kit with a re-branded (Motomaster) Northstar group 65 under the hood and am planning on adding another one in the box of my truck,

This is the spec's for the two batteries i will have.

Given the info posted above, what would in your folks opinion be the maximum rms i should or could run with this setup?

Also how does one calculate what is the maximum power that should be used with any given set-up?

Not sure if these are the If you gotta ask . . . . kind of questions.

Thank you beforehand with any input you may have.

2000-2500rms? dont take my word for it Im about as deep into this as you are. The only real way to find your max rms would be to test the system and watch voltage drop I suppose? every set-up is different. Some amps need to draw more power to put out their rated RMS than others.

Also, if you use MP3s the track volume levels are constantly changing (for me at least)... theres a lot of factors going into what your electrical can handle

2000rms sounds pretty safe to me

If anyone can smash anything I stated, please do. I like to know when I sound like a dumbass.

I recommend getting a HU with 4volt RCA preout instead of the 2v

Right around 3k imo maybe 4. Depending on several things.

But generally two big batts and a alt will put you o decent shape. Youd need a couple runs of wire for 4k, you could make it work. It wouldnt be 100 percent optimal but god knows ppl run big amps with the same or less.

So if your talking rock solid voltage id say 3k at most. 4k with a lil bit of common sense.

Setup:

2010 Hyundai Elantra

Factory Unit via 4 chan NVX LOC

Excessive Amperage "H/O" Alt

Xs D3400/ Xs XP3000

Big 3. 2 Runs of +, 2 Runs of -

DD M3b and 2 12" AQ HDC4s

I wouldn't run anymore than 2.5k personally, I was weary of running 3k on a 250a alt and 3 batts though...the electrical system of my car is not something that I enjoy messing with though, so I was going to make sure nothing was going to shit on me lol

c'mon now, if i was shooting an 8 year old, it wouldnt be MY 8 year old.

i recently got a Pyle PL1590BL and i was building an enclosure for it tuned to 25 hz. i didn't have any tools to cut a circle so i hit it with a big hammer.

Thanks for all the input so far folks!

Yeah, kinda kicking myself for not getting the 240 amp Mechman to start with.

Good to know i could step up to a couple of these X10's or similar if i wanted to push my limits.

Based on my setup and experience with it, I'd run 3500-4k.

Well, the batteries look to be a sealed lead acid style. So, they'll require between 7 and 10 Amps each to maintain a surface charge when the vehicle is running . . .

They are an AGM style battery, that is different from an SLA isn't it?
