NEED HELP W/ FIRST MAJOR WIRING INSTALL!!!!

Recommended Posts

I have recently just purchased a Digital Designs M4 from ToNasty, and it is a major step up from my SQ1200.1

I don't trust my local car audio shop for various reasons, and im also not the most experienced as far as SPL car audio goes, but i can afford it and am wroking towards my first High/er SPL system.

FIRST, My setup- 2003 CHEVY MONTE CARLO SS

  • Digital Designs M4 [400A Fuse] (3800 RMS @ 12V & 5000 RMS @ 14.4V)
  • (3) SoundQubed HDS3-12 (4 OHM DVC) will be ran @ .67 OHM
  • Singer 275A Alternator, 170 @ IDLE
  • XP3000 in the ass (120AH), S3400 under the hood (65AH)
  • Haven't decided on my mids/highs amp, but at the most maybe 600rms
  • Big 3 Upgrade

Now my lack of expertise is here; I'm going to be purchasing SHCA cable & have a few questions:

  • How many runs of cable should I have?
  • Whats the difference between 1/0 & 2/0?
  • How many fuses are needed & Dist. blocks?
  • Anything else you reccomend?

My local car shop cannot be trusted. They cater more to those that buy in store and can care less about items brought in, as they do not cover warranties. I dont want to get screwed by them cutting corners in my electrical. I much rather buy the material and take it to a shop of choice for the install. all help is appreciated.

But What Do I Know?

1 Run of 1/0 off the alt to the battery

2 Runs of 1/0 to the rear battery (maybe get away with 1 2/0 OFC SHCA run)

Same amount of grounds on rear battery as positives (to frame)

And Wire amps to the rear battery.

Thats alot of power your amp puts out for 1 battery in the trunk, maybe another would help. Plus you still have mids & highs to run off that electrical too. I would run 0 AWG and at least 1 run if not 2. Depends on your budget i guess. Electrical is the most important part of your system IMO. Save up and do it once and do it right.

0 AWG allows more amperage to run thru the wire

Fuses @ each end of runs and after batterys to distrabution blocks

Do lots of research, look at pics, decide on wiring routes, amp placements. And take your time. Good luck.

thanks man, yea i plan on adding another xp3k to the trunk. I want my voltage to sit at the minimum, 13.5. so taking my time with the electrical is not going to be an issue.

Here would be how You would fuse, green lines are fuses. Wiring is your preference though as far as how many runs, i would do 2 personally. And like everyone said, you will want probably 2 G31's in the rear.

One run off the alt to front bat.

One run from front to the back (pos) fused as close to the front and rear bat as possible.

No need for ground.

Ground at the rear.

Add another xp3000.

Turn it up.

That is the plan! definitely another 3k in the rear. i just didnt want to pay high dollar for shitty cable from the shop. rather purchase my own and bring it in.
