gckless
He isolated battery because it runs all the 12v gear (like regular truck electronics) and is used for starting So the alternator charges the battery normally (set at low voltage), then he can disconnect the battery and ramp alternator charging voltage to the cap bank to 17.0v, and let mass ear raping ensue Wow, never even occurred to me that's possible. Damn caps are awesome! "Clipping" is the biggest forum boner now. It's like witchcraft... it automatically explains just about everything people don't understand. simicblu
I remember few years back when I just got into car audio, one of the first things my high school professor said "you can't have a bigger capacity than 1 Farad, Earth is around 1...". After few minutes I've proved him wrong, then I had 2 Farad cap...In the end, awesome build hope to see more of the Black Nasty in the future;) More pictures &
RossGo
I remember few years back when I just got into car audio, one of the first things my high school professor said "you can't have a bigger capacity than 1 Farad, Earth is around 1...". After few minutes I've proved him wrong, then I had 2 Farad cap... In my physics lab in college, we had two boxes of capacitors wired together to make a total 75 microfarads. They were old school (80s) style caps, but the professor kept talking about how much capacitance they could hold. At the time, I had a 10 farad capacitor. He didn't believe me, so I brought it in and we tested it to be around 9 farads. He had a mega boner for that. I can't imagine what he would think about this Yes I have a lot of stereo weight. I build for Smiles Per Gallon not Miles Per Gallon LOLZ My build - 1996 4Runner with 2 18s - 149+ in a sealed box (with radiators)
Jesse Yoder
The active balancing is just keeping each cap the same voltage in the stack of 6. That is what the circuit board is doing yes, active vs passive, passive is on all the time, active is only on when voltage is high and making the circuit ACTIVE. Balancing helps greatly extend the life of the cap. According to the maxwell engineer I talked to last week, my bank will last 15 to 20 years. In my testing I also saw balancing as benefit in dynamic music, vs in a burp application I saw NO gain. Where do you buy these microchips? I also bought my caps from Chris. Digikey for active ones, mouser for passive, also ebay for passive. I got mine from digikey can you please list the exact module chip you used. i can not seam to fine it on Digikey anywhere .
