Smoove Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Back in the day the rule was : your ground wire should always be 17" or less on an amp. For the most part I have seen that rule thrown out the window for second battery grounds and frame grounds. My question is WHY??? 2 Team Fi 15's v1 2 DD M5's 970amps of Alt 6th order blowthroughThe truck Blowthrough build : http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/155555-smooves-1996-chevy-ext-cab-c1500-slow-build/The 350z build : http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/170694-smooves-2003-nissan-350z/ My FB page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Smooves-Car-Audio-and-performance/719746144805343 Team Fi Audio http://www.ficaraudio.com/
rockFord_Expedition Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 My thoughts are that the rule still holds. True as " the shorter and fatter your grounds are, the better off you are." Depending on the application, when forced to chose, people will run a longer ground if that means more amperage capabilities as opposed to what they can get away with by sticking to the foot and a half rule. Sutliff Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Same 18" rule when it comes to distance away from a BATT or AMP to fuse/break it. It has never done me wrong. Although I have always ran runs of POS & NEG front to back in all of my builds. Oh, well. ChevyBoy95 Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Practicality for one. To get a PROPER ground you need frame or battery bank... most peoples banks or frames arent 18" or less away..... People who get 18" grounds are usually grounding to the body. That is part of the reason I have always ran front to back GNDs.
