trumpet1 Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 I have 2 4ohm tweeters per channel for my front stage and Im haiving trouble wiring in the capacitors to protect them. I though you just solder them in line with the positive. And when I wire the 2 tweeters down to 2ohms do I need one cap per tweet or only one for the pair as long as my power dose not exceed the rms of the cap? Thanks. Put the capacitor before the tweeters, such as close to the amplifier where you can support the wire properly. Tweeters do not need much power to get loud, even standard soft dome tweeters. If you can surpass 50W continuously like even a cheap electrolytic capacitor is rated for you're doing something wrong. The value of the capacitor should be as such that it is well below the crossover you choose on your DSP. One octave lower is fine. This first order slope well below where the tweeter is actually playing is not going to have any audible effect.
White Lightning Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 If you are going with a Active setup. what are you using for processing / crossover networks ?? and why would you run a pair of tweeters per channel ??? Ryon Johnson Posted May 20, 2014 Author Report Posted May 20, 2014 An old school Kenwood kec302 6 channel for the crossover, hertz ht28's for the tweeters. I am running a pair per side because I want it louder. I have a polk 2 channel d class that will do 225w rms per channel @2ohm, was going to run them off that at but I also have an elemental designs nine4 that will do 65w rms at 12v@4ohm a channel per tweeter, I will try both, nine4 will probably sound better but the polk is more efficient and small as hell.
White Lightning Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 Efficient ?? Hmmm ... Yep, you might better throw a protective cap on each one of your tweeters Sir ... Stephen13 Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 Protective caps? Do you guys mean a poly switch tweeter protector? It kinda looks like a ceramic disc cap but it isn't a cap. 2011 Chevy Silverado LT 5.3L 4x4 Ext.-cab "Enjoy yourself. It's later than you think."
