bmxscion Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 I have amps in 2 different locations in my car....behind the rear seats and under the passenger seat. I know using the seat bolt is not the ideal grounding location. I have both grounds in each location using the seat bolt (yes sanded to bare metal). I just picked up a few JL Audio XB-MGLU grounding lugs. My plan was to install one in the rear and the other up under the seat to have dedicated ground points so I don't have to use the seat bolts anymore. After i get the lugs installed, would it be a good idea to put a run of 1/0 connecting each lug under the car, and maybe another from the lug under the seat to either the battery ground direct or to the main ground on the block? bmxscion Posted May 26, 2014 Author Report Posted May 26, 2014 I pulled everything out of the rear yesterday and discovered the threads from the JL Audio lug is the same as the bolt on the seat bracket I was using was. Here is what I did. Pics are pretty self explanatory. I'm waiting for my hydraulic crimper to get here to make the cables that will be ran under the car. I will be covering the connection under the car with some silicon to seal it up when all said and done. I'm going to get the other lug mounted up under the seat or wherever the best spot for it is today. I know that one is not the same threads as the bolt I am using now so I will drill a hole. bigmizzle99 Posted May 26, 2014 Report Posted May 26, 2014 Using the frame or the chassis provides more area and more conductivity than a single run of 1/0. You should just try to ground all equipment to the same spot on the chassis. Adding the 1/0 connectors under the car won't help much Camaro SS Build Altima build 2.0 Altima build 1.0
SnowDrifter Posted May 26, 2014 Report Posted May 26, 2014 1. Grounding to a sanded seat frame won't really do much. What's the seat frame grounded to? The only connection you have is that steel bolt that goes through. And steel isn't terribly conductive 2. What car do you have? If it's a unibody, front and rear strut towers are generally good grounding locations. If it's built on a frame, then you ground to the frame ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
