Kyblack76 Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 So I ask this question, who is going to stand up first and start rating their amps at 13.8 volts? Yeah, i know there are the rare few that provide those ratings, but its few and far between. I mean, I've never seen a setup that an average consumer has that can hold 14.4 and a lot of cars today are charging at 13.8. Seems like it may a requirement in the future. The first amps i had and ran .... a bajillion years ago,... were rated at 12v flat. SMD SUPER SELLER The Burban Build Blazer Build sold Acura trunk build sold

Broke_Audio_Addict Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 I still find it funny when people dog an a amp because it wont do certified to 1%thd or to clipping they say its bad, and wont ever buy it. Now its as long as it does dynamic its a perfectly fine amplifier.... It could be 15volts, and neither of them amps will make 2200rms in either certified test. Just for the record, I never considered certified to be the test that determines if an amp is doing rated. If an amp can put its rated power to subwoofers, it is doing rated. I've found dynamic is closest to what amps can do hooked to a subwoofer. So why do higher quality amps have no problem reaching rated power on the certified test or Damn close to it? There is no excuse for a companies product not meeting the specifications they say it meets. If I started a company that sells let's say fire extinguishers and I claim it can put out a fire from 10 feet away but it really only works from 2 feet away is that ok to make that claim? The fact is there needs to be more honesty in this industry and the ad-1 was designed I believe to do just that, amplifier companies can't hide the truth anymore. Because they're way under rated. If an amp can do rated power to a subwoofer, then it is doing rated power. So the amp doing its rated power or more in the certified mode means it's a way underrated amp?No it means it's rated properly, an amp should do more than its rated for in dynamic mode. If it does exactly what it's rated for in dynamic where is your dynamic headroom coming from? That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

If it does exactly what it's rated for in dynamic where is your dynamic headroom coming from? It depends on what you call rated properly. It is just my opinion, but if an amp can do its rated power on music, then it passes my test. Others opinions may vary. CstrokerV Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 But amps aren't rated at music burst its rated at a certain watt at 1 ohm at 14v if it doesn't do certified it fails.... my opinion amps should be rated at both 12v and 14v like my o2 amp (haha wish i could get it on the dyno).... but this test did nothing for me since i don't like hifonics and sq was never an option for me my build http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/142505-small-build-log-4-dc-lvl3-10s-tl-update-link-to-rebuild/ http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/154258-rebuild-6-lvl3-12s-update-small-video-nothing-spectacular/ new build http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/188181-03-trailblazer-slow-build-8-dc-lvl3-12-m1-motor-m2-parts/
JeepAndBassXJ Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 Just clamped my Rubicon 2500 after I tuned it with the o scope and it did 2004 watts at 1.25 ohms on a 35hz tone burp. For music I doubt it does 1600 or 1700. There is no my opinion or your opinion of rated properly is, it either does rated or it doesn't and if the only test it even comes close in is dynamic it's not doing rated. There should be no more cea compliant bullshit either, Let's all push for ad-1 approved labeling.
