Bad Amp?

SMZ2

Recommended Posts

I have an mb quart 4.125 and alt wine. I ran new wire everything. I have checked all the grounds, rcas, speaker wire, and fuses. After swapping out I still had noise. Then I swapped the mb quart with my old 2 channel and boom noise was gone. All the wire was still the same from the mb quart. Is the mb quart bad? I bought it lnib second hand. Am I missing something. Swapping and losing noise sounds like a bad amp to me. What do y'all think?

How is the contact poit for the ground connection at the vehicle/chassis? Was it scraped down to bare metal? Has rust/corrosion developed over time?

You say the 2-channel works fine, which I'm going to ASSuME the 2-channel is a less powerful amplifier and thus demanded less amperage. The ground connection wouldn't have to be quite as strong to support powering it.

I was looking at your build log and it looks real good, so i don't suspect this is a problem, but is your ground wire the same size as your power wire?

One thing I am thinking of, since some amps require different RCA technology. That you need to ground the RCA's.

fuck the plating. look at what the main metal used is. you could buy unicorn blood plated terminals but if its just covering up dog shit, whats the point

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha

What type of surface was it mounted to.... I had a issue with a fosgate amp one time where it didn't like metal contact so I mounted it to a beauty board and never had an issue

he wouldnt be the first to say they did a 167 with a system like that (one that clearly DOESNT), but i have to say, he didnt beat me anywhere, ive never competed against the guy. If he thinks his does a 167, mine would probably put him in a coma. :hairtrick:

Are you talking single-ended input vs. differential? bc I personally have only heard of that causing distortion or muddy signals, but it is more then possible it could also create a ground loop, so in that case try using coax RCAs instead of twisted pair and see if it helps
