Keeping a alt cool?

Recommended Posts

What about a heat shield? Just something to block a little bit of the heat off the engine might work, it wouldn't keep it cool but it might keep it a few degrees lower.

Kind of like a turbo shield. Shouldn't be too hard to kind some kind of flexible heat shielding material that to make something that fits.

Just asking because he said it was from heat, or over working it for lack of batteries. I'll see when I get it back. I mean it was acting up before I even had a load on it. Just thought I'd ask what everyone does or if anyone had any thoughts. Thanks guys. Shipped it today, should be back Friday. Gives me time to finish everything.

I wired the relays of my radiator fans to a switch. Can flip them on full blast manually and blows gobs of cool air over the alt. It still gets warm, but nothing that will make you go "ouch crap" if you touch it

Could a guy maybe take a little electric fan, (like kind used for cooling amps in amp racks), and mount that by the alternator sucking the hot air away? Maybe a heavy duty one.
