Ritch40 Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 i am modeling a box for a sound Qubed HDS 12" using box specs provided by Sound Qubed 1.75cuft +port and driver displacements 28sqin port 21.5" long i rear port velocities top 130ft/sec. i know ideally i need that number below 110ft/sec. i have played with port dimensions while maintaining the 28sqin spec. does anyone have any suggestions?? Krakin Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Adding more area will lower velocity Krakin's Home Dipole Project http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186153-krakins-dipole-project-new-reciever-in-rockford-science/#entry2772370 Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist? I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.
Robert8252 Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Have experience with the older hds12 rated for 600rms. Used 2 cubes with two 3" Aeros. Not sure how much they have changed but they need a lot of port and power to get moving 2013 F150 Crew Cab Old Build Log Feedback 2013 F150 Equipment - Some Awesome Stereo Sound Making Stuff

DJL Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 An ideal box for the HDS12 is 2.2 net with 16sq" of port opening area per net cube tuned 36-38hz. The sub will work in boxes from 1.75-3.0 net cubes.
Krakin Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Port per cube is crap. Do the math to figure out close to what you need. http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31 Krakin's Home Dipole Project http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186153-krakins-dipole-project-new-reciever-in-rockford-science/#entry2772370 Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist? Krakin Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 It gets you near with port per cubr, but then again what would the creator of the parameters to determine loudspeakers know. You can make your mind about their preferences but if you are just wanting a small box DC Audio 12s will work on 1.25-1.5 net.
