is fiberglassing inside the box worth it (for strength)

Recommended Posts

fiberglass resin by itself provides almost no structural strength. Adding glass mat is where the strength comes from. But if panels are already loose and slapping together you need to take it apart and redo. Using Titebond wood glue is what you really need to do. I use brad nails and Titebond 2 (although 1 and 3 will work just as good).

It might seem like it's gonna suck to take out and redo but it's what needs to be done, having it come apart will always sound like shit and will be pointless to keep running it.

This thread is lovely. OP asks for advice, is told to build a new box. OP doesn't listen to advice, does what he wants anyway. Seems legit.

Edit-The cherry on top is that it's a back seat box SMH

Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

Well, to be fair, some of us, including myself, suggested a worst-case fix, to pull panel apart and reglue/screw.

But yeah.... Cringe.

Yeah, I've been there and done that. The box, assuming he can get the panels free and cleaned up, CAN be reglued with better quality Tite-bond 2 or 3 for sure. I've been there and done that with fixing am enclosure with fiberglass and I blew the seams out twice again since the sub was too much for the box.

He's running some subs that LOVE to breathe, I think additional bracing definitely needs to be a consideration, especially baffle to bottom.
