Cj Kumz Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 Hey guys what's the best way to extend cables for these subs that come with direct leads. Any disadvantages of just twisting and insulating? Vw Polo Pioneer Deh-6050UB Sundown Saz-3500d DD Audio 9500 15'' 5.5 cubic feet box with 10 inch port @ 38hz I live to hear the Bass drop!!!
Skullz Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 Biggest wire nuts you can find. Use some electrical tape if they don't completely cover the wire. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-OF-10-GARDNER-BENDER-LARGE-BLUE-WINGGARD-WIRE-CONNECTORS-MADE-IN-USA-/350950449663?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51b646e1ff 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
Broke_Audio_Addict Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 I would just use binding post on your box run the direct leads to the post then you can make the wires on the outside as long as you need. http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-bpa-38g-hd-binding-post-pair-gold--091-1245?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=pla That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.
Skullz Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 Every break in the wire from the speaker to the amp adds resistance and chances to cause shorts if something comes in contact with it. I will always error on the side of caution and never use something exposed with the possibility to cause a short at best and a fire at worst. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
Cj Kumz Posted August 17, 2014 Author Report Posted August 17, 2014 Thanks for the info guys. Will look into those accessories. What are the effects of just joining them by twisting the strands together Vw Polo Pioneer Deh-6050UB Sundown Saz-3500d DD Audio 9500 15'' 5.5 cubic feet box with 10 inch port @ 38hz I live to hear the Bass drop!!!
Skullz Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 Wire nuts will give the wire a more secure connection and allows for easy connection and removal. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2

Ritch40 Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 Id solder on rings and use some sort of binding post. even something as simple as a stainless steel bolts , nuts and washers. And yes, soldering is in my humble opinion VERY critical. over time wire will oxidize. so at some point in time anything short of a soldered connection will be affected by the wire oxidizing and the connection becomes less and less efficient.
